Knowing sadness

As part of entertaining a certain someone today, I listened to his tall stories while struggling to keep my eyes open and forcing my brains to register his words.

From the load of bs, there was one particular line he said that hit me: How can someone who has not experienced sadness know what happiness is?

So true.

I'm very sure of all the people who can claim themselves to be truly happy have been through sadness and then cherishing their positions now to be truly happy and thankful of it. He made me reflect on my own life. I believe at one point in my life, as a few people may know, I was at the lowest ever. Hence I believe I have known sadness to now know what happiness is when I have found it.
I'm ready for you, so Happiness please come get me.

New chick in town

At Kek Lok Si Temple, Tonis left the group to rush off to buy souvenirs. Anshii had just showed him and told him who the God of Fortune is and then he went back to get it.

He rejoined us and said he had bought the God of Fortune for his brother, whom he claimed might need it. And since his brother has a girlfriend, he said he got her a "chick".

And then he took out the box and showed us the "chick"....

Stunned

What would happen to you if u were stuck in a city which depresses you most of the time and then one of the only 2 persons who truly truly know what you're going through leaves?

That leaves me with one.

My long break

And thus my long break starts. Went back to the office to get the dreaded letter, then I went to do some shopping before heading back to BP.

I had packed so much clothes, and threw in as much useful makeup as I could possibly find, spent so many hours just packing these, and yet I still managed to leave stuff behind in SG. Left my cleanser, my necklaces and MY HANDPHONE! It's my Malaysian number and I cant be bothered going back to get it so I'll just report it as a lost SIM card and pay the RM25 fee.

Went down to JB this afternoon to take a family portrait. Anshii had been there since morning for her bridal photoshoot. When we arrived there, she was only in her 2nd (out of 6) gown, and she looked so pretty!! The makeup was very well done and so was the hair. I wish I could be like her makeup artist and make someone look so pretty like this too.

Saw on TV the news of Malaysia's new CIQ Complex. Seriously, no better name?
And instead of being a grand occasion of having a new Customs n Immigration centre and also doing away with that embarrassing Causeway checkpoint, the news was one which would embarrass a whole nation. How could such a massive complex, 200 lanes in total, cause a jam worse than the old checkpoint has ever caused before? The jam today was from the Johor CIQ Complex all the way to S'pore on ONE side of the Causeway.
A reason for today's massive jam was because many vehicles were caught off-guard that the new complex requires Touch & Go cards. Now which idiot forgot to advertise? Or did they really believe all travellers have a TAG card? How could you make such a major implementation without first informing your travellers, at least giving 2-weeks notice?

Why, why, why, WHYYYYY cant my government get something right in anything that they set out to do? This government is so infamous for spending A LOT of money on a project, which in the end is useless/white elephant/obsolete/needs even more money for improvement.
For example, until today we're still debating if Science n Math should be taught in English. And the PTS exams came and went, and you wondered what the hell for they implemented that. Trial run, u say? Get a proper expert to think these through first! And who can still remember how much the government pumped into BioValley? Oh, do you still remember BioValley? And now we have 'Corridors' all over the country, even in the Borneo Island. Like our Multimedia Super Corridor, guess who will still remember these corridors after 8 years? And will the people really benefit from all these hundreds of millions spent? We'll see. Not that I'm against my government for pumping in money to supposedly create more jobs and push the country forward to becoming an industrialised nation... But having seen the MSC and other projects quietly fail, I do have doubts of my govt's capability.

Let's just see how long it will take the Govt. to run the CIQ Complex smoothly.

My eye-test results

Saw my opthalmologist today, finally.
Bad news. It is not conjunctivitis, it's something much worse. And the signs were apparent months ago, when my photophobia began. Yes, my photophobia is linked to what's happening now.

Depressing.
I've been taken off my flights, on a long break to recover now.

Me: So my eyes will recover right?
Doc: *smiles* Er, hopefully.

:\

Inconsolable.

Blur

You don't want to see what the world looks like from my point of view. Because it's very blurry!

I have taken time off work for a few days because this morning my doc said I have kerato-conjunctivitis. :( Yeap, it's gotten worse and the infection has gone under my cornea. He said I shouldn't be wearing contact lenses for 3 wks, but how can I work??? :(
Depressing.... taking a cab back to BP later.

The doc said the keratitis is the cause of my blur vision. It's so annoying to have a vision like mine right now. If it were the TV, you can hit the TV top and maybe the reception would be clearer. If it were the VCR, you could clean the tape-head. If it were the computer monitor, you could just change a new one since monitor's are so cheap now. But it's my eyes - what am I suppose to do! I can't turn it off, I can't fine-tune it...

On a different note,

Saks Fifth Avenue is suing a customer, over thousands of dollars worth of mis-priced jewelry.

Emily Pickering is being sued by the retail store after two clerks sold her diamond earrings and a diamond broach as a set for $28,000.

Turns out, the earrings and the broach weren’t a set — and should have been sold for $76,000.

The store’s General Manager called Pickering, told her of the mistake, and asked her to either return the jewelry or pay up at a discounted price.

Court documents show Pickering refused.

Now Saks is suing her for the price of the broach and its lawyers’ fees.

Interesting. But I really think it's not right for Saks to sue. I thought it was very basic consumer rights that we pay for what the price tag indicates? And since there was no price-tag there for the brooch the customer should not need to pay for it. PLUS, she was clearly misled by the sales assistants. So there's no fight, I say.

I had a similar experience just last month. Timothy and his mum were right there when this happened. I was shopping for my hand moisturizer at David Jones in Perth when I saw the price of L'occitane's Elixir at $64.90. Now, the original price of this is RM230. I immediately grabbed it and took it to the counter to pay.
I asked the lady at the counter if there was another bottle of it because it was very cheap. She tried to look for it herself because the L'occitane salesperson wasn't there and unfortunately that was the last bottle. So she scanned the item and the price turned out to be some 80 over dollars. I looked at her for a moment while considering if it's still worth buying it from there or if I should get it in Europe.
Then the cashier told me that since the price-tag indicates that it's $64.90, she'll give it to me at that price. I later went to the L'occitane store to double-check the price and the lady said the Elixir is 80+ and there was no price-hike to the product recently. I scored a bargain by accident. The cashier at David Jones knows the price-tag was wrong, but still had to charge me the price on the tag. Clearly it was misleading but whose fault is it?

Thus, I don't know why Saks is suing the poor customer but should instead deal with the 2 salesperson who were careless and did not know their own products better.

I thank those who have been there for me

The header of this post was suppose to be about extra-marital affairs, but I decided I should be more positive and give thanks to those who have been there for me. More about that later.

Today I heard about someone being involved in an extra-marital affair. I am sure that most of us know of at least one person who has done it, and as we get older, we'll hear a lot more of such incidents. Whether it happens to people we know or God forbid to ourselves, there's usually a lot more to it than what you hear. No sane person will risk his/her family, reputation, career, friends and erm health (the stress) for sex.

In any case, should any one of you know of someone who's stuck and who wants to come out of it desperately, please do stand by them and help them out. If they enjoy it then wth-lah.

On a slightly related note (I was/am NOT involved in anything like that!) I just want to use this post to extend my greatteeesssttttt appreciation to those who have stood by me in my lowest times. There are always high points in one's life, and of course the lows... and you never really know who are the most important and dear to you until such times. My family has always been there for me. Whenever I'm low, I just need to go home for some TLC-therapy. It always works. Mum will fuss that I am not eating enough, not sleeping enough, check if I've done my shopping, check if I've showered *cough*, and anything I need will always be there, ready for me... be it food, ironed clothes, or care.
My two sisters have heard of my secrets, they know the latest happenings in my life and they've endured my horrible temper and childish tantrums.

My best friends from high school... We have not been in touch lately but when I screwed up in tests, when I was low because of people back-stabbing me, they were there. They stood by me and we bitched together of these backstabbers. Hsin Ching has been through my countless problems right from Day 1 until now. There's nothing else to hide from her, and she doesn't judge me. I appreciate her for all that. Things I had done wrong in life, I had to come clean with her, and still she stood by me like a true friend. I don't think anyone else could ask for a better best friend.

College was a big part of my life, even though it was only a year. I met so many awesome people at college such as Shirline, Fong Yeen and Yoke Yin. I cant use words to describe what wonderful company they make and how much I relied on them to get through college. Shirline and Fong Yeen have heard my rants, heard my sob stories, saw my dining habits change, let me stay at their houses as and when I wanted to, talked to me sleep and vice-versa, etc. I still miss you both so much because you are just so far away! And even though we don't contact each other much, Yoke Yin's loyalty as a friend has always been evident to me. Time and again she checked on me to make sure I was alright when I was at my lowest. Thank you. :) Ajay is also always there to clown around, making me laugh. I can't think of anyone who made me laugh more than him in college. It was always cool to hang around with him and Rahul and checking out the birds. However he's not just a clown but someone whom I can still count on if I need a hand right here in Sg.

Though I spent only a number of years at Monash, the friendships I made there are for keeps. Uni was an interesting part of my life, not the happiest when it started out because I still missed my college friends so much, but it definitely ended *almost* on a high note. Best years were definitely 2nd and 3rd years. It was during these years that I met incredible people and forged friendships which I will treasure my whole life. Shing Wei and Eric were the ones who motivated me in my studies, pushed me hard and even harder, reminded me of deadlines and reminded me to sleep. I would sooo flunk uni had it not been for them. And I can always count on the both of them to comfort me when I'm down. Kon was just there for everything and anything at all. Be it to take me out for meals or to make sure I've eaten esp. in my final year... or to listen to my littlest problems, he would never admit that he's tired of it. Same goes to Alpha who had to endure me for one whole semester in his office. I was almost a permanent furniture and still he could garner all that energy to make jokes and make me laugh. If I were an ornament in his office, I would be a cranky tickle-me Elmo. Like Kon, Alpha was also always ready to lend his shoulder and ears... I cannot imagine the amount of crap I gave him towards the end of the year but still he survived like a champion, and could still bake for me before I left. *drools* I also must give my thanks to Yoges whom I followed around like a shadow back in 3rd year 1st sem. I was perpetually bored, THE WHOLE TIME, and he was such an entertainer. It was so easy to guess where I was after classes - right next to his computer terminal at the lab. The best part was, he allowed me to shadow him even though it was creating a lot of misunderstanding elsewhere (I swear I didn't know it was going on...). I can't leave out names like Seng Kiat, Wei Hong, Peggy, John, Kenneth, Chek Fong, and my all-time favourite lab-demo, Tommy. These are people who have been true friends and helped me so much along the way I can never thank them enough. Of course then there's William whom I got to know in the most bizarre fashion, but he's one of my closest friends now. I think nobody, I stress NOBODY has ever heard me complain as much as he's had, and yet he can still be laughing merrily after that. And he has the best memory for details, even I can't remember what happened to me as well as he can. He knows of my weirdest childhood stories, my frustrations during my uni days, about my roomates/housemates, you name it, he knows it. Bless his kind heart! And I'm glad we're still in touch and in the same city (IF we both aren't actually away for work)!!! In my lowest moments in Uni (towards the end), all of the names mentioned above were so ready to be there for me... I wasn't able to readily show them how much I appreciated them but I want to tell you all now, I really really appreciate all you have done and your time spent on me. The tears you've tried to dry, the hopes of happiness that you tried to make me see again and enduring my childish manners, I know it. =))

This year I've also met two very amazing girls whom I don't get to spend much time with :( Ericka and Ee Vonn i hope you know how much I miss you!

To my family and all my friends, I really do miss you all from here. It's not so fun without all of you here. Still I thank God for each of you that have come into my life and blessed me with your kindness and support.
xo.

I'm going public

It's been known to many that I've had a private blog for many years now. It's therapeutic to write there, and I had written a lot during my days in uni. Those were private issues and also there were very private thoughts about things.

Since moving to my current city earlier this year, life hasn't been the same and it hasn't been easy dealing with the changes. I've only spoken to a few people regarding this, namely Kenneth, Kon and Hsin Ching.

Kenneth and Kon told me to take up a hobby. Among the many suggestions that they came up with, both came up with writing. Kon said I should start a public blog because it'll take up a lot of time just editing and finalizing one post.
I thought it was a very good idea, so here I am with View From The Top.

Some of you might think it's a cheesy blog name to have, especially since there's a very very bad movie with the same name out there but you should know it's more to do with my job than where I think I stand *doh, I'm not very tall even in my 3-inch heels*.

I'm currently blogging with conjunctivitis in both eyes :\ I was diagnosed this afternoon, more than 24 hours after the first symptoms. It was so bad I couldn't operate on my flight yesterday but I thought it was due to lack of sleep (my usual photophobia problem which arises when I do not get enough sleep). Who knew, it was an infection.... I came home in the afternoon and slept till this morning, hoping to see my eyes in its normal state again, but no it was still red and teary :( I must say the condition has improved since this morning, when I couldn't even look into my laptop/handphone screen without having to turn away after 2 seconds with tears rapidly forming in my eyes.

Going for dinner now. I do hope to be back to write more very soon.

Snowman

It's like we had built a snowman.

Everybody wants to build a snowman, so we built one. It was fun building it, though it was not easy looking for the teeny-bits to complete the snowman; it was a pleasure to look at while it lasted, but one day the cold went away and the heat from the sun started to melt the snow away. Bit by bit, the snowman melted. And no matter how hard I tried to catch the drops of water that was melting fast with my two hands, not only does the snow continue to melt, even the water in my hands escape and drip away through the small gaps between my hands.

So winter is gone, and summer arrives. Now I want to walk through this period like it really is summer, bright and happy.
