One year and one month

Here comes the beautiful bride

My cousin Sue and her husband came back to Malaysia for a little wedding ceremony at Renaissance KL for her closest family members and friends. It was a small and intimate affair, with plenty of laughs (drunken ones).

It's insane that in broad daylight people were getting drunk and started collapsing one after another.

The groom finally got his bride. He had to go through some pretty rough stuff to finally get her.

It is true that a bride is at her prettiest on her wedding day.
I wish them both a lasting and blissful marriage. It'll be a wonderful journey, I'm sure.

And guess who caught the bride's bouquet?

I really didn't mean to stress The Boy out just before his exams!

Leave is ending

OH NO. The 9 days are just zipping by so fast...
Will be back at work soon.

These past few days, I've been going around doing errands mainly for the house that's undergoing renovation.
And my money is really flying away. It grew rocket engines. :(

Also, last weekend I attended Sue's wedding. It was a small and beautiful event. Will blog more on it later. Pictures to follow.

BP flooded

Even without rain, parts of BP Gardens were flooded because of the rising tide.
This is mad.
A friend's house had water in her living room... Can you imagined what would have happened if this was a week ago when there was torrential rain everyday?


Is this town really going to sink, as some have predicted?

Generation gap

Yesterday on my flight, I had an 81 year-old Caucasian lady travelling to Singapore to see her daughter and her grandson.

She was nice and was chatty.
She needed help with the entertainment system so I helped her to get started and she said, "It's the new world isn't it? I try my best to learn but there's only so much that I can learn."

Later on, she stopped my colleague to ask where the toilets were. My colleague guided her to the nearest one, and the passenger asked if there were toilets for females and males or if they were unisex. My colleague told her it's unisex. And our cute old lady commented, "Oh right, it's the new world..."

And what a bloody awesome morning it is!
My annual leave has started!!!

Mad-rush to pack for 10 days at home. Plenty to bring also because it's Sue's wedding.
Lugging home 6 bottles of milk tea and other Japanese snacks. I hope my taxi driver doesn't get too mad at me.

Before the wonderful weekend begins I'll have to settle renovation stuff and after the wedding, I'll go lights- and tap-hunting.

A good break with the family and extended family before the mad holiday travel season starts.

I don't think I can stop doing this

I have just come back from Tokyo. This time, I was at the area of Odaiba which I must say is a very interesting place. It seems extremely well-planned and I could walk from building to building from my hotel on an open space above street-level.

I enjoyed the food there, as usual. I can't think of anyone who doesn't like Japanese food. Even more so food in Japan.

I bought my milk teas, which happens to be an addiction of mine. Not the regular milk tea or bubble tea, but just milk tea from Japan. My favourite is Kirin's Pungency*. It also happens to be this morning's breakfast drink. (I happen to have 9 bottles in my room now - carrying them back from Japan was a bitch because I had to carry my luggage up steps to my apartment.)
I also stocked up on my BalanceUp biscuits. I will assume it's some sort of nutritional/dieting biscuit because it makes me really full. I love the taste of it and just a pack makes me really full. Again, also my breakfast today. The milk tea and BalanceUp biscuits are today's breakfast before I hit the gym.

In one corner of my room is a whole recycle bag full of toiletries, snacks and food from Japan, save for two packets of Arnott's cookies from Sydney.
As much as I dislike a particular trans-Pacific Japan flight because the flight is just so damn tough, I love it when I'm finally there in Tokyo city and putting the rough flight behind me.
One bowl of Ichiran ramen is enough to make me forget the walk across the Pacific.
So much love for Japan.

Don't even get me started on San Francisco and Barcelona. And Seoul. Or Amsterdam. Or Paris.

These, with the exception of Barcelona, are expensive cities.

If I stop flying, I may never be able to go back to these places again.
And no more Japanese snacks and authentic Japanese food.

It's a scary scary thought.


*Please excuse the name, for I think PUNGENT by definition is pretty negative. There are a million blog posts out there that have ridiculed the usage of the word. THE DRINK IS REALLY GOOD, please try!

Ispahan

There's finally a dessert that I love that doesn't come in chocolate flavor.
And this is one that I would actually choose over a chocolate cake.
This special dessert is the Ispahan macaron. I don't even like macarons in the first place but this is definitely a winner.

Aircraft food makes you fat

Bread makes you fat too.
But I'm trying on this experiment where I'm going to eat as little aircraft food as possible with the exception of bread and butter (and jam).
I've heard from my seniors from the day I started flying that plane food is unhealthy (high in sodium) and many have reported dramatic loss of weight when they stopped eating plane food altogether. Others claimed that when they started eating plane food after being trained for business class (because there's just so much to eat there!), they gained several kilos.


According to seniors, other than weight gain, aircraft food causes hair-fall (again because of the sodium level in the food). Aircraft food is also said to be unhealthy because of the time second meals spend in the plane chillers - not freezers - even though in its boxes, dry ice have been stacked on top of the meal racks. By the time we change the meal racks for the second meal, the dry ice packs are just a bag of air and nothing else.

Let's try this for two weeks and see.

Otherwise I'm hitting the plane food again because I actually like them!

Cooped up in my room again

It feels like me one year ago. Cooped up all day in my room with nowhere to go, nothing to do.

The Boy has exams coming up and he's studying 16 hours a day, every day. Two nights ago, he bought a dozen cans of Red Bull to help him through.

When he told me he was doing his summaries a few weeks ago, I thought it was like, just summaries. A few pages, up to a hundred pages maybe.

When I saw one of the files, one of his eight subjects, my eyes almost popped out. It looked like two thousand pages!
And it was all done neatly and almost professionally. With index and perfect formatting.
I hope it all pays off.

Ban is over

It's November, two months to the new year (yay!), the start of school holidays (OH NO!!... I just wanna be on leave until the holidays blow over), and the END OF MY BAG BAN!

While I was on the ban, I bought a few pairs of beautiful shoes, scarves and other accessories.
They did not come cheap so looking back, a bag ban probably wasn't exactly effective. How many times am I going to wear those scarves? How long will those shoes last me? The Chanel earrings have already gone back to the shop after only 6 months.

I did erhem buy two bags that will barely count as defying the bag ban. One was a saddle bag from Charles & Keith. It looked great with my outfit that day but is still wrapped in plastic and in its original paper bag till this day.



The other would be a clutch I bought from Colette in Chadstone for A$25.

These don't count.

And I already know what I want to get as my first bag after the successful ban.


The only problem is I really don't know if I should be putting money down on that or a piece of furniture for my new place.
le sigh.

Job offer

It started with a little question. This passenger's side of the watch peeped through his cuffs for a split second. Being a busybody that I am, and because he's been pleasant, I asked if that's a Panerai.

From there he went on to say he works for Panerai in Singapore. He was telling me about the boutique in Singapore being the largest in the world. When asked if his has any that is limited edition, he said that was his one and only and it's just a rather ordinary one. We talked about what he owns, some movement stuff, some Panerai history (things I can only know of because I eavesdropped on some pilots' conversations!), and what his company distributes (Jaeger Le-Coultre, Cartier, IWC, Piaget, Van Cleef & Arpels etc.).

I told him how close I was to getting a JLC Reverso Duetto but the manual movement stopped me. On hindsight I know I will be quite put off having the wind the watch every single day. Said passenger told me to go see the watches released this year, he says they are very nice. Advice will thus be heeded.

At the end of the flight, he gave me his name card.
HONESTLY, up until then, I thought he was just GM or a director of some sort.
He is actually a CxO (x, to maintain confidentiality) and his last words, "Call me if you're keen on a career in luxury retail."

Sounds like something just for me!!

But sadly only this big golden bird can pay for the renovation of my house.
