The Last Kiss
I brought Notes with me on this trip, knowing that it will help me kill time. Truth is, I didn't need it. There are too many things to go through on TV.
However, with The Faraway Tree Collection sitting on the sofa in the corner of the room, I told myself that as long as I don't finish Notes, I can't read The Faraway Tree. And magically, I went through more than two-thirds of that book to finish it last night, while watching The Princess Diaries.
Me loves Julie Andrews.
This morning, I was half-reading and half-watching the movie The Last Kiss. THAT MOVIE MADE ME WANT TO HURL MY TWO POUND BOOK AT THE TV A FEW TIMES!!!
My view on relationships have changed very much in the last two years, and even more so in the past month.
I've grown up and learnt this: Guys will lie through their teeth to tell you nothing happened while looking straight into your eyes. These men have no place to be other than hell.
Yes, I am a woman scorned. I have things planned at the back of my head which I want to carry out and the more disastrous the effect, the better the results and the happier I will be.
Just waiting for the right time...

A day at Crossword
Crossword caters mostly to the NRIs, expats and the richer locals for the books are more expensive than say, the run-down and stuffy bookshop at the dodgy part of town, hence the prices are a bit steeper. However, to us, the books are still a bargain.
I bought 8 books, a Liszt CD and 2 packs of UNO cards (99 rupees for a pack)...for about 3000 rupees, which is about SG$100.
Books here are about half the price of books in Malaysia. I was hoping to find some books for baking but there weren't any interesting ones there. There were however hundreds of Sanjeev Kapoor books. Those books are of no use to me though since I don't like cooking.
(The JBL speakers on the table just caught my eye... this crew lounge is very well-equipped.)
So I have two more days here. I have urged my other crewmembers to visit the step-well tomorrow. It's such a hidden treasure, this well. People know to visit the Jain temple and the Gandhi Ashram when they come to Ahmedabad but somehow, they're missing out on the beautiful step-well! I think they are planning to go go-karting too because the track here is apparently the biggest or nicest in India, something like that.
I, however, will just stay in bed and read Enid Blyton's The Faraway Tree collection (who can forget Saucepan Man!) which I bought today and watch HBO.

Hibernation
It's a relaxing flight for we only work 5 hours or so there, laze for 5 days, work back and get 3 off days.
=D
Things there are cheap too... and food is fantastic.
Though I'm not sure about having Indian food every meal.
I also foresee that I will be staying in my room and flipping through the 80+ channels on Indian Cable TV.
Hence I went to stock up on drystores for this trip, all ready for hibernation.
But I may have went slightly overboard *shifty eyes*
In my luggage now I have:
1. 1.5 L of water (we get 2 complimentary bottles from the hotel daily so don't need to overdo this)
2. Half a dozen of small tetra-pack milk
3. Half a dozen of small Nestle breakfast cereals (those you used to bring to school)
4. Half a dozen of small tetra-pack Vitasoy soybean milk
5. 3 packets of potato chips from Seoul
6. 1 loaf of Gardenia banana walnut bread
7. 2 strips of Oreo cookies
8. Salted vegetable crackers
I think this is one of the very few times when my luggage will actually come back to Singapore lighter.
If I remember correctly, the dinner buffet at the hotel is very cheap too.
I've already done the sightseeing there so this time there's really nothing to do but sleep and watch TV, maybe go down to the crew lounge to use the internet and watch DVDs...
Because laptops are not allowed into Ahmedabad, our crew have been very considerate and left behind DVDs (from Shanghai, duh!) in the crew lounge to help us poor souls kill time.
Such sedentary lifestyle, gonna come back fat :(
P.S.: I know you were thinking that I could go to the gym to do something about my jiggly fats... but my fellow colleague was describing the gym in this particular hotel and I really don't think I want to be in there when the power trips (oh yes, it does trip quite often in Ahmedabad).
P.P.S.: If you thought I was kidding you about the power trips, here's proof - from DELHI!

FF3.5 is killing me
1. It hangs and there's nothing I can do about it except to terminate the programme... And it's particularly annoying when you have multiple tabs opened. When forced to restart the browser the stupid browser says, "Well, this is embarrassing..." and tells you that it was unable to reopen your websites. Damn.
2. On days when the connection is slightly slower, the connection times-out too fast. So in the past versions the browser will just keep trying to connect to the website but these days, the browser has grown lazy and gives up trying after a while. Then I have to put in extra effort to Ctrl+R the page, and more often than not I have to Ctrl+R several tabs at a time.
Can't wait for FF3.5.2.
Or I could start using Google Chrome.

Hear Paul McCartney swear
Paul McCartney swore in a Beatles song?
Listen to 'Hey Jude', at 2:57 part of the song:
"Remember to let her under your skin/oh, then you begin"
and Sir Paul goes, "f87king hell" off the mic because he played a wrong note on the piano.
RIP Yasmin Ahmad
Yasmin Ahmad directed some of the most memorable and touching commercials and also one of the recent hit local film Sepet, a story of cross-cultural love in multiracial Malaysia.
Her works uniquely capture the essence and life of Malaysia and its people...
Even the very popular Funeral ad on Singapore TV that was a hit on Youtube and Facebook was directed by her.
This is one of her works... The Love of Tan Hong Ming.
It's a Malaysian National Day Ad.
At the end of the ad, there's a line that say, "Kanak-kanak memahaminya", which literally means the kids understand.
Another ad with emphasis on racial unity.
The Romantic

He personally designed this necklace, whereby the pendant is an F and J combined, to symbolize the love between him and Fergie.
Sweet. :)

Why do blacks always run
I'm talking about black fabric dye.
Was handwashing my clothes this evening... threw black clothes into clear water, water became murky and then almost black.
Everytime my favourite black jumper bleeds, my heart bleeds too.
Someone needs to invent really good black dye man~

Softeners
He said: "Smell this. ("Very nice," I replied) It reminds me of my days in Lagoonview (the condo where he stayed during uni days). Everytime I went to the balcony, I got this smell because Tean uses this softener."
Inside me, I was thinking how softener affects me the same way. The smell of my softener always reminds me of home. My freshly laundered sheets and towels all smell just like those at home :)
Advice to girls
Please don't date foreign guys anymore. You don't know his background, you don't know his family, you don't even know if he has a wife in his country.
Every word he says is truth and fact to you.
...until you discover his secrets...

Random musings
Today a 'friend' added me on Facebook. He was an acquaintance from back in Uni. He had introduced himself to me and many others as Sky. His friends knew he was Isaac-stroke-Sky. Sky is his initials, backwards (Y.K.S. if you still didn't get it, doh). He sent me a personal message on Facebook anyways and then when I went 'Hi Sky!', his reply was, "Btw, why do you call me Sky? My name is Isaac."
*dot.dot.dot*
Why's he so weird!
What should I say now?....
I'm meeting my ex-roomie tomorrow for dinner. I haven't seen her for 3 years.... wonder what it's gonna be like....
My skin has been so dry and I had this suspicion that it has something to do with my loose powder, which lists it's first ingredient as talc. Many times when I put on the loose powder, I can feel the skin tighten immediately. I thought it could only be felt, not seen. So when my leading stewardess commented on how dry my skin is, that was it Borjouis... It's time to open up my Origins loose powder.
The Origins powder has no talc, which was why I bought it. Not easy to come by loose powders without talc. But it's main ingredient is silica. Isn't silica associated with cancer? Hmmm...
I saw the meanest Darth Vader video and I can't stop myself from pressing the Play button over and over again! It's damn cool...
My colleague and I were exchanging tales of our lives and we realized that it is indeed extremely rare to come across good men and also extremely difficult to trust them all the way.
I still suck at serving Business Class. I get so intimidated by those unfriendly faces... :(

New way to put on weight
Well, a new way to put on weight is also to come to Italy...
The weather is scorching HOT (I'm so tanned now I have all the tan lines to prove it) that I kept craving for Sprite and gelato.
Today I had 2 cans of Sprite and 1 bottle of Pepsi Light to quench the thirst. To cool down the body I also had 2 scoops of gelato... twice. *shifty eyes*
So all that sugar's gonna be stored as fat...
I'm gonna be fat and diabetic :'(
Just got back from Venice.
Venice is a cut-throat place, be careful people!!
I'm broke, I just want to go home now...

New way to lose weight
Food here sucks so bad I don't even want to eat.
(Shopping to divert attention from the growling stomach helps too.)
I bet I will shed 2 kilos before Monday.
I think I already lost 1 kilo today just walking to hunt down a one last bag in Milan - I had not slept after the overnight flight and went straight to the city to begin the hunt - and it is now mine. Hallelujah.

Hard gay
So very funny, but unfortunately for those of you who are underaged, Youtube will need you to verify your age before you get to watch it.
Watch it here.
Mind you he was a pro-wrestler and has a hot model gf. I think he has now returned to wrestling.
He has even appeared on BBC because of his fame. Way to go, Hard Gay!
Ok off to Milan in a few hours. Hopefully I get to go to Venice.
Duomo I am here to see you again...

And I thought I was mean
XiaXue's July 1 entry was probably provoked but the 1515 -WHOA! - comments were mostly in support of her (I'm guessing, because I can't go through all of them), and some made really childish comments.
I wasn't even too comfortable when she put up so many photos of the man and his wife (obviously taken without their permission) and I felt uneasy reading all the mean things she said.
Of course if I were in her shoes, I'd be very mad too - that someone out of nowhere takes a photo of me in my worst at a food court and then starts accusing me of this and that.
But her readers' comments were seriously childish (mind you, too many times I've told my friends I think the youth in that island are very childish... too pampered, too spoilt, never seen the real world). I finished reading XX's entire entry but I couldn't even finish reading one page of those comments. Some were really uncalled for - like asking them to get out of SG, one girl said she cannot stand seeing Filipinas in Singapore.
Hello, who's been taking care of all those spoilt babies huh? Had it not been for them, will the mums and dads be able to work and care for their children at the same time? Those Filipinas also help to boost the economy in every possible way because they are so freaking brand-conscious!!! Of course there are also them who are in the professional line and can anytime speak and think better than those useless overprotected brats who make baseless comments.
And did you find that entry funny? I was feeling worried, because it felt like a real war had erupted. How come so many people said it was the best/most funny entry ever, and they were all going "hahahahaha" wtf?!
This also reminds me of something someone recently said, behind my back, about my work. I love my job, as I have said many many times before in this blog, and I can't think of any other job which I'd rather do at the moment than this.
Which other job lets me have my breakfast in Singapore, lunch over Nepal and then dinner at a cafe overlooking Eiffel Tower? Which job allows me to buy the best of the best from different places of the world? If you have been nice, ask me where to get a certain something and I'll tell you the best place to get it (I might even help you get it). For example, if you want something from GNC, you can get its supplements at a discount every first week of the month in the States. Didn't know that, did you?
Work is not easy but at this moment, I see the perks outweighing the cons. The best part is, at the end of the day, I get a deep sense of satisfaction. Unlike this said person, she rants about how bad her day has been. For me, I exhaust my energy providing the best ungrudgingly and be happy when I get off the plane.
Maybe one day, when I feel the need to settle down, to live life on the slower lane, I'll think of switching jobs. Right now - in fact, for as long as I live -, NOBODY has the right to tell ANYBODY about what this job means to me and how I feel about my job other than myself. Unless you are repeating exactly what I've said to you.
If you're not repeating what I said, then don't say it because you have no right to.
If you're ranting about your job so frequently, I'd suggest you to look after yourself first and reflect at why you're still at your job instead of being a nosey parker.
I didn't say anything about you and your work, so you should respect me and keep your imagined opinions to yourself.
Seriously man, some people in this world need to get out of their own bubble.
*flips hair*
Rheinfall
It is about an hour away from Zurich.
Schaffhausen was accidentally bombed by U.S.A. during World War II because they mistook it for Germany :S
Switzerland okay, the neutral country. Wonder how tense the relations between the two countries must have been.
Anyway Rheinfall is a gem!! There was so much water, thanks to the rain that fell the week before.
We took a boat across the river to get nearer to the falls and then climbed up very steep stairs to get atop a rock to see another view of Rheinfall.
I hope you get to visit Rheinfall too someday!
Man In The Mirror
My cousin was going to catch him live in O2 in London this month. She couldn't get her hands on the ticket unfortunately. I had actually thought about this a few times already since MJ's death: even if he was going to come to Singapore now (ok not now, that would be spooky) but if he was going to be in Singapore, I probably wouldn't buy a ticket to see him.
Which concert of his doesn't have people going hysterical and fans falling to the floor like mosquitoes which have been sprayed with Sheltox, and then get trampled on :S
I think more people faint in his one date than Backstreet Boys' 100 dates combined.
Did you all watch the memorial at Staples Centre? I did. Everyone gave such stunning speeches. Oh man, so touching lah, especially the brothers' eulogy and Paris' 30 second speech.
He's in a better place now.

What mother would...?
(pardon the Engrish, I got this in an email and I'm leaving this unedited)
1. The story began when I was a child; I was born as a son to a poor family. Even during meals, we often had a lack of food. Whenever during meals, mother often gave me her portion of rice. While she was removing her rice into my bowl, she would say "Eat this rice, son. I'm not hungry".
That was Mother's First Lie.
2. When I was growing up, the persevering mother gave her spare time for fishing in a river near our house, he hoped that from the fishes she had caught, she could gave me a little bit of nutritious food for my growth. After fishing, she would cook the fishes to make fresh fish soups, which raised my appetite. While I was drinking the soup, mother would sit beside me and eat the remaining flesh of the fish, which were still on the bones of the fish which I ate. My heart was touched when I saw it. I then gave the other fish to her. But she immediately refused it and said "Eat this fish, son. I don't really like fish."
That was Mother's Second Lie.
3. Then, when I was in Junior High School, to fund my study, mother went to a company to bring home some match boxes to stick them for some income. It gave her some money for to cover our daily needs.
As the winter came, I woke up from my sleep and saw my mother who was still awoke, supported by a little candlelight and within her perseverance she continued the work of sticking some match boxes.
I said, "Mother, go to sleep, it's late. T omorrow morning you still have to go for work. Mother smiled and said "Go to sleep, dear. I'm not tired."
That was Mother's Third Lie.
4. Then came the final term exam. Mother applied leave from her work in order to accompany me. As the morning disappeared and the rays of the sun was starting to shine, the strong and persevering mother waited for me under the heat of the sun for several hours.
As the bell rang, which indicated that the final exam had finished, mother immediately welcomed me and poured me a glass of tea that she had prepared before. The very thick tea was not as thick as my mother's love, which was much thicker. Seeing my mother covering with perspiration, I at once gave her my glass and asked her to drink too.
Mother said "Drink, son. I'm not thirsty!".
That was Mother's Fourth Lie.
5. After the death of my father due to an illness, my poor mother had to play her role as a single parent. By holding on to her former job, she had to fund our daily needs alone. Our family life became more complicated. No days without sufferings. Seeing our family's condition getting worse, there was a nice uncle who lived nearby came to help us, in some big and a small ways. Our neighbours saw that our family's life was so unfortunate, they often advised my mother to marry again. But mother, who was stubborn, didn't heed their advice, she said "I don't need love."
That was Mother's Fifth Lie.
6. After I had finished my study and got a job, it was time for my old mother to retire. But she didn't want to; she continued to go to the marketplace every morning, just to sell some vegetables to fulfill her needs. I was working in the other city, often sent her some money to help her in fulfilling her needs, but she was stubborn and did not accept the money. She even sent the money back to me. She said "I have enough money."
That was Mother's Sixth Lie.
7. After graduation with a Bachelor's Degree, I continued my studies to get the Masters. I got the degree, which was funded by a company through a scholarship program, from a famous University in America. I finally worked in that company. With quite a high salary, I intended to take my mother for a holiday in America. But my lovely mother didn't want to bother her son, she said to me, "I'm not used to travelling."
That was Mother's Seventh Lie.
8. After entering her old age, mother got a flank cancer and had to be hospitalized. I, who lived in miles away and across the ocean, directly came home to visit my dearest mother. She lied down in weakness on her bed after having an operation. Mother, who looked so old, was staring at me in deep yearning. She tried to spread her smile on her face; yet it looked so stiff because of the disease she was holding out.
It was clear enough to see how the disease broke my mother's body, but not her spirit and love.. thus she looked so weak and thin. I stared at my mother with tears flowing. My heart was hurt, so hurt, seeing my mother in that condition. But mother, with her strength, said "Don't cry, my dear. I'm not in pain."
That was Mother's Eight Lie.
After saying her eighth lie, She closed her eyes forever!
All
Don't need to give examples, you know it yourselves.
But every now and again, we see the odd one or two who make decisions not based on what is best for the children, but what is best for themselves.
Selfish is the word in my head right now...
First shocking example was when a friend's boyfriend's mother will not allow him to work anywhere else than in his hometown up-north. While that northern state is rather prosperous, it is nothing compared to KL or Singapore when it comes to opportunities. Besides, he is a fresh graduate who needs all the exposure he can get, and can't just focus on a small state to start off (and expand) his career. Yet the mother is hell-bent that he stays in the home-state and find work there. Anywhere else is out of question.
I don't even know why he's being treated like a baby, it's not even like he's a daughter who needs Mommy and Daddy's protection *roll eyes*.
Second example, a friend of mine recently kept telling me he wants to further his studies and obtain a doctorate. However, his hopes are quickly dashed because his mum cannot wait for him to get married. In fact, since graduation more than a year ago, his mother has not stopped bugging him about marriage. 24 years old, for God's sake! And because of his love for his mother, most likely he is going to forego his freedom and his dream to study and lay the foundation to an even brighter future just to marry a girl whom his mother has long set her eyes upon as Future Daughter-In-Law. And slowly but surely, he is caving in under pressure.

AALV
I had just come back from 6 days leave last week if you remember. Today's the start of another 9 YES!
I was hoping to get a turnaround flight for my standby today - wish came true, got a Jakarta.
But the second half of that wish didn't come true.
The full wish goes something like this: I wish I get a turnaround so that my leave starts a day earlier (officially it's 7th) and then I can fly to London with Julia on 6th morning.
Unfortunately, the London flights for the next two days are fully booked (it's overbooked for tomorrow in fact) so I will be heading home instead.
Be drebar/Ahmad to my mum and sis, play the piano, maybe visit friends in KL again, and start application for my PR.
All the paperwork has had me putting it off for months, I guess I have no excuses now.
I'm going to pack now.
Let the fun begin....

July the 4th
Chin Shi, Wee Chieh, Li Horng, Kong, thank u guys so much.
I enjoyed the 11 hours that we had and especially the grand ending to the night hahaha.
Domo arigato!
Went to watch Ice Age 3 also, Wee Chieh's treat :) I didn't watch the second movie but the third one is full of mindless jokes. I recommend it :p
After the movie, I had to answer nature's call - and that was when my EZLink card fell into the toilet bowl........
I was pulling up my jeans when I heard something drop. I looked down and saw my EZLink card already drowning in the water (already flushed, excuse me) and within the next two seconds, it just vanished into the deep hole.
I think my jaw dropped and I just stared at the card until it disappeared from view.
WHAT THE (!&@^# I had only topped up the value of the card this morning ok!
Now have to buy a new one - and the new EZLink cards are more expensive. Hmm :(
Weirdest day in history
What happens to all the songs the United fans made about him when he was a Scouser?
oh man.
Just when I couldn't imagine him in a United jersey, there I found this photo of him in United's latest kit.
It feels so weird.....
Untechsavvy
Today I feel like I'm really left behind as everyone moves forward with their gadgets...
Every second person in Singapore owns an iPhone but I'm merely using a Nokia E71. While people have gone from about 17 buttons to zero (touchscreen) on the phone, I went the other way and now I have uncountable number of buttons on my phone.
My two housemates are both Macintosh users. One has a Macbook, the other recently bought a Macbook Pro. I'm still sticking with you, Mr. Gates. ONLY BECAUSE I'm too lazy to learn how to use a Mac! Old already, my brain can't absorb much these days.
Not only that, my two housemates also carry around DSLRs. One has a Canon and the other bought a Nikon today. Meanwhile I use a very humble point-and-shoot Fujifilm FinePix. I didn't even buy that camera - it was a gift from my aunt. I like it very much though because it has a manual mode, makes me feel a bit pro-er. It's also so much better than the Nikon 3200 that I had before this - that one sucks balls.
With all their gadgets, I feel like I'm ostracized in the house leh, how?
Last video
And tonight, BBC uploaded on its website a video footage of MJ rehearsing for his London tour just two days before his death. Watching the video gave me goosebumps....
Because I saw a handsome face in the music video the night before and then watching the frail him rehearsing and knowing at the back of my mind that this was him two days before his death.
Freaky.

Inside or outside?
I saw this at the Singapore Science Centre. This 4-dimensional bottle's inside is its outside, so it has no real inside and outside....
Smart, no?
