A dog would never do this

4 in the morning

I'm holding up... I'm doing an overnight flight to Sydney tonight so I'm trying to sleep as late as possible and then wake up as late as possible (preferably at 7 p.m.) before I start preparing for my flight.

In the time that I've been trying to keep myself busy since I arrived in Singapore at 6 p.m., I've chatted with friends, seen a few funny videos on YouTube, blogged, read blogs, done my laundry, officially moved rooms, put out the fresh bed sheets, watched half an episode of Mythbuster, put up new curtains, and painted my nails.

I'm nervous about the curtains.
I did not move to the new room earlier because I didn't have curtains for this new room. I bought my new set of curtains from Parkson in BP - because things are always cheaper in BP.

My previous room had windows which looked out to the corridor, and there was no direct sunlight which came in through those windows that are frosted and permanently shut. Permanently shut because I have a cuckoo neighbour. I did not need heavy curtains to block out light while I sleep at the odd hours.

In this new room, my windows face direct sunlight at certain times of the day and this worries me. There will be times when I have to sleep in the day and I would hate it if my curtains do not cut out most of the light. In a few hours these new curtains will be put to the test. Let's hope it's a success.

I think my head's clearer

When Michael Jackson died, he was the trending topic for about 3-4 weeks...
However, Justin Bieber has been a trending topic every day for almost every hour for the last six months!?!?!

Now I know why. See this video and you'll know the world loves Justin Bieber. If you don't then you don't belong in this world.

Actually, to be honest, I'm more confused than ever. WTH! What's so great about him?! Why's a 3 year-old crying over him!!!!!

JOSH DUHAMEL FOREVER!

It never ends, does it?

Spent the last hour or more looking at watches.
I really love a few of those but why must they be diamond-studded huh huh huh!
Do diamonds really make everything more beautiful....

They are so expensive I'll have to put in a few months' salary to pay for one of those.

When can I ever come to a point where I can tell myself, OK, I've got all I wanted. Peace. ^^V .

If only all I want is just a Casio Baby G (got backlight and can see in the dark, ok!) rather than an Omega Constellation humph.

Hitting quarter of a century

Yesterday my friend reminded me that I'm two months away from turning twenty-five.

I looked at my life to see what I have achieved.

I just deleted an entire list of things which I have achieved. I guess it's quite personal.
The list is a mixture of material and intangible achievements.
Hitting 25 sure is life-changing and makes you think, a lot.

Roll with me

When I was in San Francisco I queued for a turn to have fun with the iPad. I even told my passenger he had to go to the Apple Store to see the iPad since he's already going there right....
So I went there, had some fun, and I thought the iBook app was especially cool. I was so tempted to buy one back - what could be more cool than being one of the first in SG/MY to own it. Besides, we know it's gonna cost a lot more in this side of the world when it's released too. I guess I did well when it came to self-control and left the store without a big box in hand.

My passenger didn't do so well though - he came back to Singapore with one even though he really doesn't need it and he doesn't even like touch screen much.
On my flight back I also saw several passengers with their new iPads.
The Apple Store is one evil evil place.
I'd love to be a shareholder of Apple though.

Today I met up with childhood friend Elaine.

We went to the vet (for the first time in my life!) to remove the stitches on Olive. Olive is no longer a real bitch after her op :(

Went back to XXX Jalan Jambu Terung to realize that the interior looks exactly the way it was 10 years ago!!!

Saw the happy family of dogs Elaine took in minus the useless father who vanished after shagging the mother dog.
The mother dog is very pretty! Very "foxy", as Elaine would say. Hence giving rise to the dog's name, Megan. Go figure.

So Megan gave birth to Olive and her two sisters, Russell and Bacon. Yes Russell is a female dog ^o)
And also a half-monkey. That's Russell in the far-left cage.

We had lunch at Sushi King and us two young ladies made hell a lot of noise there. Quite embarrassing lah but it was really fun catching up so I can't be arsed.

I told Elaine we won't leave till she matches my number of plates... So she waited for something to swim by....

And found the perfect dish - this is the one, she says.

And there, 7 plates. Mission accomplished.

You notice my beige plates? No prize for guessing what were on those beige plates.

We tried to take a few self-shots. We laughed like crazy because we were winking to signal the camera to snap the shots. Obviously we can't wink very well and ended up using every facial muscle to signal the camera while trying to keep a decent-looking face for the shot.

After that we went to see When In Rome. It was soooo funny! I know I wouldn't laugh half as much if I were to see it alone but I guess I was in an extremely jolly mood :)
I loved the stupidity of things and OMG JOSH DUHAMEL!!!!!!! SO EXTREMELY DROOLWORTHY!
He'll be the reason you spend 10 bucks to see this movie in the cinema rather than on your 32" (or 17") at home.

China the new emperor

Everybody is bending over backwards for China.

In the ever so natural this

it is now on dry land.

It still baffles me why the Danish government decided to move the real thing to the World Expo instead of just making a replica. What if it gets mishandled along the way?! Maybe they're just showing the "because we can" attitude just because the largest shipping company is Danish. Meh~

Sundobu-ed

I'm back. Such a dramatic 4-sector flight.
Dead tired.
2.54 a.m. and my uniform which reeks to the heavens of vinaigrette is washing in the machine.

Two things to do tomorrow: Pack and call Elaine!

Elaine, in case you're reading, I saw your email!!!! I'll be calling you tomorrow (actually later today) and I'm heading home too!!!!!!!! We'll celebrate :)

Aih, one by one my friends are leaving to places further and further away. The feeling is bittersweet... Though they may be going some places far away, they all go there in pursuit of their biggest dreams.
And this makes it all the harder to quit my job since this is my only way of visiting them at their respective countries.
Cambridge and Mississippi State, who would have thought!!!!
Stop calling me bimbo, you idiots, because these brainy people and I flock together!

Someone's comin' out

A publicist who has helped several celebrities come out of the closet has disclosed that someone is coming out this week so be prepared.

If it's Anderson Cooper, FML I'm done with gay men!

-----------------------------------

I like what I've been hearing on radio lately. The 90s was a fantastic decade for music. 2001-2009 was pretty bad, with not many good songs being made once every few months.
2010 has so far been pretty good!! I like listening to the radio again (in particular 181 fm on your iTunes radio).

I wanna live here

I'm in the happiest place in the world.
No, it's not heaven.

It's San Francisco. Ohmannnn I love this place so much I will miss it like crazy when I stop flying.

I couldn't sleep onboard today during my rest because I was too excited. When I was at my seat as we were about to land, I couldn't stop smiling to myself!!!! Like an idiot okay. Luckily there was a kid in front of me so I just pretended like I was smiling to the kid.
When the plane landed and my leading stewardess announced, "Welcome to San Francisco ladies and gentleman..." the joy I felt is just indescribable. I luvluvluv this place too much.

After showering, I went straight out and I only went to three shops - nail polish shop, Hollister and Bath & Bodyworks. And I already spent close to two hundred quid. I bought so much at Bath & Bodyworks it's not funny - I spent close to a hundred just on body creams and room sprays and hand creams.

:(
I haven't even started on shopping proper (which is tomorrow).
And I haven't bought the stuff I have to buy in Korea (on the return leg)! My cargo bag is so gonna hit 50 kgs this Sunday.

It's still early but I need to sleep now, knowing that I'll be up by 3 a.m.

p/s: there's a solo violin busker 9 floors down and his tunes sound are all so sad........ Currently he's playing Love Story. Oh, he just changed. It's the Godfather song.

Mother Nature, calm down

Ahhh, the volcano is stillllll spewing out ash!
This is worrying because I have a London flight at the start of May. Even though several airports have now started to open, the optimism may be short-lived because the volcano is working overtime and so what if the other airports are starting to open - London is too close to Iceland :(

Find me the biggest plug to plug that hole, NOW!

p/s: more bad news. Experts are saying the Katla is due for eruption any time now, because history shows it erupts once every century and the last time it erupted was in 1918. It is a more ferocious volcano and the current Ellus7uhk volcano is just a small "dress rehearsal" for the Katla. oh my buddha!!

The next one week

I'm off to Seoul-San Francisco shortly.

It is a week's flight but take away travelling and resting time (ho ho ho, v important!) I essentially only have one and a half days in SF and a day and a half in Seoul booooooo.

Also, if you'll remember, I changed for this flight. I had given away Milan and another middle-eastern flight for this.
How lucky did I get! Tonight's flight to Milan has been cancelled! Poor girl who changed with me - stuck and on standby in Singapore.

Will blog in SF when I suffer jet-lag.

Alexa wilt thou be mine

I promise to love thee forevaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

I have been waiting and waiting for Mulberry to come out with nice colours for the Alexa. The first batch had really limited colours. In fact it had one that looked so weird - like a leopard that had a bad shock and turned purple.

So very recently Mulberry included two classic colours - the brown and the black. Too common and boring.
And while waiting for even more colours, the yellow from the first batch has really started to grown on me that... I don't think I can do without it.

This is bad. If I want it, I have to get it before the season ends. It's a seasonal colour and will be gone within the next month or two. HOW!
I told myself I don't need any more bags leh...

Such a funky little thing, no? Oh dear :(

In other news, I got myself a new toy.... a long-awaited camera. My old one's possessed by an old ghost such that it switches modes itself. It's been dropped and kicked before and still works like a charm fine. However I don't like having to deal with the ghost when I need to take a shot at that very instant only to find that it had turned itself to shooting videos.
It has traversed the world with me from the day I started my job and had faithfully taken pictures for me in most conditions. The only time it failed on me was in...... I can't remember where but it was pretty recent. The battery drained so fast in the cold that I couldn't take as many pictures as I would like to.

Today I bumped into my colleague twice. The galley is tiny and when everybody is working fast, wrong places tend to be accidentally touched. So I was like, "Eh, you touched my buntut (backside) again ah!"
This was when my chief steward (probably over 50 years old) exclaimed, "Do you know there's a new word for buntut. It's called booty. I learned that recently. Did you know?"

Challenge proposed

Dear Alinta,

After having seen your many faces imitating Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes at themoustacheclub, I would like to express my highest regards to you on your ability to mimic a gazillion facial expressions.

Thus I would like to extend this new challenge to you - to pose like a model.

Hope to see your modelling pictures soon.

Warmest regards,

H1N1 is back

My two little cousins recently became the latest statistics for H1N1. They had to be hospitalized and have now recovered.
Apparently, the school already had cases of students down with the A(H1N1) and yet the teachers did not bother telling parents of the other school children.
No wonder the damn virus is spreading.
People never learn.

Edit: So the school did not even report to the ministry of health and education ministry that there were cases in the school. To put it bluntly, they were hiding the cases. The school should be fined!!!!

My fan's gender is female

I bought a new stand-fan recently intended for my bedroom.
I saw this one with a remote control and I was so impressed. Like, I can just turn off the fan when the air-conditioning kicks in, or I can turn off the air-cond and then turn on the fan, all without having to get off my ass!! AH, I'm suddenly reminded of Joey Tribbiani.

The new fan is an unbranded one so I brought an existing one from the living room (left behind by the landlady) into my bedroom instead. I trust KDK more than this weird China-brand fan. I didn't get to set up the new fan for the living room until this afternoon...

The design is so fantastic that there is no way the front guard could be locked to the rear guard. This was the best improvement I could come up with... doesn't my fan look pretty? I think Julia will flip when she sees this on Sunday.

Why am I here hmmm

Such a good time to be in Europe right now.
My friends in Europe are 'stranded' because of the volcanic cloud over Europe. Flights have been cancelled out of a few of those countries and unfortunately a few flights to those countries have been cancelled too.
Meanwhile, those people stranded in Europe are super lucky ok!!!!! Extra sight-seeing, shopping, sleeping, cool weather and the $$$$ just keeps adding up in their bank account. This is one time I wouldn't mind being stranded somewhere.

p/s: DYK the area where the volcano erupted is called Eyjafjallajoekull? What would you do if you were a newsreader and that word came up on your screen... hehehehe.

Envirosax, go plastic-bag free

I will interject the main point of this post with news that I ran for the first time this year because Alpha asked me last night if I wanted to join the KL marathon. The early-bird price for registration was suppose to end tonight so I told him I'll run this evening and see how my fitness is.
I ran, and I gave up after about 3 kms. I guess I could have gone on but I was bored. Have I ever mentioned how boring running is?! It's not like I have great scenery to look at - I just go around in 1.3 km circles and see the same cars, shops and bus 291s. I came back not convinced that I can run 10 km in June within a face-saving time frame and was about to tell Alpha I might not go for the run.... Then I checked the website to see that the early-bird promo has been extended to this Sunday wooohoo!
I'll run again this Saturday morning and see how it goes.

Anyhoo, I wanna talk about Envirosax!
I bought one last month and I think Imma buy more. I'm so hooked!
So many designs to choose from and now they have the new sling design (a.k.a. Slingsax). Plastic bags are ugly and damaging to the environment, and green shopping bags don't usually look great. However, with Envirosax I think they look kinda funky and are reusable and most importantly they are strong. Each of these super lightweight bags can carry up to about 20 kilos of groceries for you. That means you can put your packet of 10 kg rice in this bag and it still won't rip. :-D

Envirosax recently came up with more designs for the totes and I can't decide which ones to get! They don't come cheap (some of you might think, "Why pay for a bag when you get plastic bags for free?" You, I wanna bash your brains out!) but take heart that you're contributing to keeping the Earth green when you use and reuse these.
Each Envirosax tote sells for $12.90 at Takashimaya and I'll be more than happy to get a few for you if you're keen.

Envirosax is love ♥!

Hickory dickory dock

Last day of exams today! I need refreshers like this to reaffirm myself that I am capable of saving a choking baby.

Finally got my roster for next month.
London!!
Melbourne!!
Zurich!!
jakarta
Brisbane!!
ANNUAL LEAVE!!!!

Annual leave again~
Don't even know where to go and no travel partner. This sucks.
I don't want to sit around in BP again.
What to do what to do?

I have 4 hours to decide if I wanna run the KL marathon. This is all your fault Alpha that I'm even considering it. You will be my servant when my knees bust.

A380 evacuation drill

This is an evacuation drill of the Airbus 380 which Airbus was required to do before the aircraft was certified safe to fly.
See how tense the situation was and how steep the slides are. It's really not funny when you have to jump off those slides.

The "passengers" were jumping out the wrong way. As a result, one of them broke a leg and a few other injuries were reported. Like I said before, if you have not been taught the right way to jump there's a chance of getting injured. After seeing this video I'm very sure you will keep your shoes on during the two most critical phases of flight and I trust that you will not be the one holding up the rest at the door.

For YOUR safety

Many of you who read this blog fly occasionally. There may be one or two who have never been on a plane but one day you will and I hope this entry will be a reminder for ALL OF YOU on precautions to take the next time you fly.

When it comes to your safety, it is not just for the airline crew to take care of it - you play a part too.

Today I attended the first day of my annual recurrent programme, going through new updates on safety and security and then carrying out the evacuations and other safety procedures. This is the 2 days that cabin crew dread because you either slide or you swim but either way you have to jump off the plane. It is also when you have to resuscitate a dummy and damn if you've ever done CPR you know how tiring it is.

For those people who always criticize The Company's safety (they say things like, "Would you rather fly with burly stewardesses on \insert Western Airline\ who can save your life in an emergency or petite stewardesses who can only say yes sir yes sir three bags full?"), I hope they know this: A supervisory crew of a British airliner once told us when he travelled with us (mind you he paid full-fare to travel with us on Business Class when he could have flown free on his own airline) that in their airline, they are only made to jump the slide and do the swim once in their life - when they were undergoing training. That's it. They never have to do it ever again after that.
So, think again - do you think those rude burly stewardesses can save your life?

If you follow the news, you would have known that yesterday a premium Asian airline was forced to make an emergency landing. No, not the other aircraft that broke into two pieces although yes, both happened on the same day. The latter had fatalities but the former had several injured passengers. From the insiders' news, these passengers were injured when they had to jump the slide.

To be honest with you, today I barely had lunch because of the nerves and when it was close to my turn to jump the slide, my hands were cold and my knees were weak.

During training before I became a full-fledged crew, we were made to jump a few times a day for about a week. Yet today I'm still afraid to take that one step out. Most other girls are afraid too. I remember back then we had to coax a crying fellow trainee to take her first step. It was just such daunting task to do.

Now can you imagine those passengers who had to jump out of that aircraft yesterday? There is a technique to jump (hands stretched, body leaned forward, and continue to run when you land because of the momentum) and for those who have not been taught or have not seen videos of how it's done, there is a high chance of getting injured. It's not uncommon to hear of crew who come back for recurrent getting hurt. Ankles, toes, tailbones - parts of the body that are most commonly injured.

In my short career, I've heard too many tales of crew getting injured when doing the jump. So imagine how it is for the passengers? My advice to you - JUST JUMP. When the plane crashes, you never know when a fire might start. You shouldn't hinder the evacuation of others. By right an entire aircraft has to be evacuated within 90 seconds. If every person dramas and needs coaxing, there's no way we can evacuate them all even if we gave them 10 minutes.
We'd all be cooked, well done.

In case of an emergency, please listen to your crew. If they tell you to go across (to use the next exit) JUST DO IT. There's a reason he/she is not letting you use the door. Maybe there's a fire outside the door. You want to jump into fire? Let's say you saw him/her open the door, and yet he/she told you to go across to the adjacent exit, JUST DO IT. Again, there could be a reason such as the slide could not inflate (shit happens), so do you want to just jump out and smash your head?

Also, many of you like to unfasten your seat-belts the moment the airplane lands. You do know the seat-belt sign is still on even when the plane is taxiing to the gate so why did you unfasten your seat-belt? What if the plane suddenly jerks, and then you will be slammed onto the seat in front of you, breaking your nose at the same time. Is it worth that few seconds of freedom from the seat-belt?

Whenever I travel, I have my seat-belt fastened even though the sign is switched off. It's a lesson I learned from an incident involving an Australian carrier. We never know when a clear-air turbulence would hit and you never know when the plane will suddenly be thrown up and suddenly drop again. Passengers on that Kangaroo plane who did not have their seat-belts fastened were thrown up the ceiling and then slammed back down on their seats within seconds. Passengers who were uninjured in the incident happened to have their seat-belts fastened.
Yes, the Captain did not turn on the seat-belt sign because the turbulence was totally unexpected. But is it so hard to have the seat-belt on when you're seated?
In fact, if you're lucky enough to have the whole row to yourself and you want to sleep horizontally, you can still sleep with the seat-belt fastened.
Let what happened to those unfortunate passengers be a lesson to you. Be a wise learner and learn from others' experience. It might be too painful a lesson to learn the hard way.

Not too long ago, a steward was lifted off the ground and landed hard on his feet. He felt a sharp pain to his spine. The next time a stewardess tells you to return to your seat because of turbulence, just return to your seat and go to the toilet after the seat-belt sign is off. You wouldn't want to injure your back for it's an injury you will have to bear for life.

Another pointer would be to wear covered shoes when you travel. I know many people (especially Australians because they are so laid-back) are beginning to wear slippers onboard. First it doesn't look very nice and second it's not safe too. Always make sure your footwear is on during take-off and landing - it is mandatory for people seated at the exit rows to have the footwear on during take-off and landing, and I'm just saying it's safer for you to have it on too even though you're not seated there. Take-off and landing are the most crucial phases of a flight. Too many airplane incidents have occurred during these two phases. Let me quote you the most recent examples:
- The Asian airliner yesterday - it happened at landing
- The other Asian airliner that broke into two yesterday - also at landing because it skidded off the runway
- The crash that killed the Polish president and probably half the parliament last weekend - also at the landing phase. It was approaching the airport but came too low and hit the trees.
- The Australian airliner that had its tires burst into flames when it landed two weeks ago - I had included the video on this blog a few days ago.

Let's pretend that in the cases of the Asian airliner and the Australian airliner, if the fires at the tires got so big that it hit the fuselage and both aircrafts suddenly become engulfed in flames. Do you think you have time to put on your shoes to evacuate? In your panic-stricken situation you would be so confused you wouldn't even know how to put your shoes on anymore. The next person beside you would be so eager to get off that he might also have kicked your footwear away.
Ok, so pretend now you want to evacuate barefooted.
The cabin floor heats up and your feet are burned.
Do you think you can run for your life now?

The reason why I say it is best to wear covered shoes on the plane is because you don't want your feet and toes burned during an evacuation with fire. Once you can't run, that's it. You better pray that someone else is willing to carry you out in an emergency like that.

For your safety you should also be extremely alert on sensitive words like "bomb", "hijack", "terrorist", etc.
If you think someone made an obvious threat, please approach a crew and report what you heard. You might have overheard someone discussing plans to takeover the aircraft or someone may have made a direct threat at you like, "Move over biatch, this seat is mine. If you don't move I'm gonna crash the plane." Or maybe another person made a statement that goes, "Yeah I have a bomb in my bag,". Even though you find his manner to be joking, please do not take it lightly. In today's world, you can never be too sure. What you can do is ask him to repeat his statement. If he says the same thing, tell the crew. Well I'd advise you to report it to the crew regardless of whether he repeats the "bomb" statement or not.
If in the crew's presence he repeats the word then police will be brought over immediately (if still on ground) or the police will be waiting for him once the door opens (if already in the air), or if deemed serious enough, the plane will divert and again the police will still be waiting for this smart-ass.

Having said that, I hope you will not report to the crew when a stranger says to you, "Wow! Your watch looks expensive! Must have cost you a bomb!"
That is neither a direct nor indirect threat thankyouverymuch.

I always feel stressed out when I go back for the recurrent programme. I get stressed out not only because of the jump and first aid - I get reminded of the threats that we face as part of the job. We're briefed on the latest safety and security news in the aviation/travel world. Who can forget the latest Christmas incident on a US-bound flight? The following weeks were chaotic when it came to TSA regulations that kept changing but they have since relaxed the practices a bit. We were reminded again on what we should do when it comes to terrorists and hijackers. This part really stresses me out because the world today is not safe from anything and anything can happen on any flight.

We were also briefed on our safety overseas. An incident happened recently in Melbourne to one of our crew and our trainer told us how easy it was to identify The Company's cabin crew and tech crew (pilots) overseas. And he was spot-on. So right that I had never realized it myself until he said it. The whole class laughed at his analysis because it was true and funny at the same time. I guess what he's trying to say is that The Company's cabin and technical crew are so distinct from the others that we make ourselves potential targets to whoever who wants to rob us or God forbid, hold us hostage should they be unhappy with our government.

I end this entry wishing all of you many safe flights in future :)

Remember, this is your life - be safe!

I know you want this

So sizzling hot!!!

This is the Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss... I know that when I drive one of these, nothing in the world will feel unachievable.

Eating in China

Earlier this month I was in Beijing.
Sad to say I had to rely on the food I brought with me, which I did thankfully. It was quite a bit of weight added to my luggage but looking back, it was worth it. I would have starved if not for the trusty Chipsmore, Twisties and bread and that 1.5L bottle of water.

First of all, the water is weird so never drink from the tap, even though boiled.

My colleagues decided to go out for dinner so I thought I'd join too. We went to this HK-style 'char chan ting' in a mall which was packed with people. Considering how empty the other restaurants were, we put our trust in the locals to know which restaurant was the best to go to and so we followed the crowd.

The dinner sucked big time.

I was already grossed out when my colleague mentioned that in China, they use rats meat with other meat in your food. That's on top of the very common knowledge of them using fake 'eggs'. In China, they can fake anything and they will.

I ordered curry chicken rice, and there was no meat in my chicken! There were chunks of chicken parts that were bony and there I was wondering if those were chicken parts at all. I've never in my life come across chicken so bony before. The curry was not spicy, but rather salty.
The sight of my meal was rather pathetic. I gave up and just had rice... and a little bit of beef.

My colleague ordered beef in sweet and sour sauce. I don't eat beef but I did this time and it didn't taste quite so bad. There was still the smell of the red meat but the sauce quite overpowered the smell of the meat. And there were no bones and everyone enjoyed that dish the most.

My friend William (who is stuck in China for work) later told me that chicken in China are always bony so never order chicken in China. I guess it makes sense now why chicken is never a popular choice with my Chinese passengers. Perhaps they thought our chicken onboard is as bony as theirs too. Usually the Chinese passengers will go for the oriental selection or whichever selection that has RICE. But when it's chicken with rice they'd rather go for the beef with potatoes. I think it all makes sense now why they avoid chicken at all costs.
But I still can't understand why chickens in China have to be so bony. Ever heard of growth hormones??
Or maybe it was rat meat that I had :'(

Take a look at these pictures that I took of the menu from the restaurant:

1) Sharks have grown wings.

2) What the heck is cock-lebur/cockle-bur jelly? A kind of fowl or sea creature jelly? Alas, it's just herbal jelly....

3) Toasted pettitoes! I KNEW IT! Them Chinese eat anything, even toes :-S
I really might have had curry rat with rice!

(do you think pettitoes = potatoes? I can't read Chinese so somebody please clarify)

And that's how I headed back feeling super unsatisfied with my dinner and started my own picnic in the hotel room.

Bad Day

Gah, bad day at work! Still can't get over it.

In future, I will not be so accomodating to passengers. Yes, I'm gonna have to say No to them even though No is a taboo in the service industry. I'm sick of being dragged into hot soup because I was too accomodating.
In future, if my colleagues give me attitude because they have smaller staff numbers, GUESS WHO IS NOT GONNA WORK FOR THEM. Do all the shit yourself for all I care, I can show attitude too.

Listening to Daniel Powter and downing Bailey's. Hope this helps me sleep better tonight and wake up feeling like today never happened.

"He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away." -Raymond Hull

Hard day's work

*expletive* never expected myself to have Monday Blues in this line of job too *expletive expletive expletive*.

Things must improve!

On the other hand I had a celebrity on my flight! Well I don't know who she is but she signed a CD for one of the crew and her album is actually on our inflight entertainment system.
She must have been very proud when she saw her album on the IFE :)

Also extremely pissed with that retard of a 'minister' Nazri. I hope Dr. Pornthip sues his pants off for false accusation!!!! He spoke with no basis and blatantly accused her of lying in court. She is HUGE and nobody doubts Dr. Pornthip's findings.
I hope the Thais hear of this and the Red Shirts will be on their way to Nazri's house.

Back to the books now. Got exams on the 14th and 15th. bah!

But I also want to watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit, "o.m.g.," I hear you say! hahah! I was so young when it came out that I can't really remember the storyline of the movie but I remember playing the VHS several times. And now I have it in my HDD!

New job scope

Pasting stickers is my new job scope.
Yes, being a flight stewardess means you must be able to handle people, you must be able to sell products (sell the damn fish if the chicken's running low), you must be able to administer first aid, you must be able to save and evacuate passengers, you must be able to handle emergencies like decompression, you must know how to heat meals depending on meat-type, you have to know your cocktails, you must know your wines, you must know your airplanes, you must be able to read body language, you should know how to plate dishes, you must know how to entertain children, you should know how to handle elderly and passengers with reduced mobility or disability and a very important must-know - pasting meal order stickers.

I've been pasting 90 over stickers now. 30 more to go!
ARGH. Why must there be so many passengers in the superjumbo!

Had an unfruitful day today.
Today Julia and I were supposed to change our cable TV package (ours), buy a new stand fan (mine), buy a full-length mirror (mine), buy a new luggage (hers) and buy a huge storage container (mine).
We only managed to get the stand fan :(

We went from 313 Somerset to Shaw House to Tangs to Paragon and then to Mustafa Centre, the airport and Tampines Mall and we couldn't find the darn luggage!
It's annoying that most of the luggage these days have no latches but are instead zipped.
If you have seen this video before, you should know that your check-in bags should not be zippered.
So it was frustrating that we went to so many places and we couldn't find a decent 29-incher with latches (and TSA lock). Even SAMSONITE and DELSEY had very limited choices with the luggage. Samsonite's most decent one (without a zipper) was S$500+, which is ridiculous. And Delsey's 26" is $329 now, when I bought my 29" for $295 about two years ago. I'm sure Julia would have paid good money for a Delsey's 29" except that there were no 29" latch-luggage around!

Since we had taken a cab to Mustafa and we didn't want to feel like we didn't achieve anything, I just casually bought a stand fan from there (even though I had wanted to buy one from Harvey Norman).

The only highlights of the day were the food we had.
We had Japanese for lunch *smacks lips* and very good Chinese food at Crystal Jade in T3, Changi Airport. Julia and I have bad habits of insisting on dessert/coffee after meals so after both meals we had dessert and coffee (of course, it's hot chocolate/chocolate frap for me) ... bliss!

Will get back to pasting stickers right now.

Susan Boyle v.Chinese

Edit: Just realized that in the post 'I guess I'm normal' the picture still does not enlarge to its actual size after clicking it. So here's the link to the actual page.

Oh man, he is like Susan Boyle in so many ways.

And the host calls him 'xiao pang', poor dude.

Sure his appearance seemed a bit awkward but as this YouTube user puts it,
"You try getting that haircut and singing Whitney Houston like that on stage. the guy is more of a man then any of us."

Big round of applause for 'xiao pang', everybody.

Happy finds

I luv bags, in case you haven't realized already tsk tsk tsk.

So was particularly happy when I found not one, but two bags while doing a bit of spring cleaning this evening.

One is a gym bag which I really wanted (I know I don't go to the gym but I have a soft spot for gym bags) back in 2006... So Anshii bought it in one of her travels and gave it to me when I visited her in Moscow!

It seemed a bit too big back then so it was seldom used. Well actually, I put too many things in there and the material tore so I hadn't used it much since.
Today the bag seems like a good size and I think I will use it when I go to ..... *thinks hard* Oh well, I'm sure I'll be using this bag in the near future. Otherwise I already know that this time next year I will be using this bag to put my towel, extra clothes and toiletries when I have to jump off the aircraft into the pool for the bi-annual swim.

In this bag I found another bag :-D It is a bag which I've barely used (not a favourite) and it is in extremely good condition.

I love days like this!

Ahmir goes country

I like!

I guess I'm normal

Some of the most bizarre 'common' searches out there just makes you go w.t.h.

p/s: I tested out a few and this is really not made up.

The obsession with beauty pageants

Take a look at this series of photographs from a beauty pageant for children.

It's ridiculous how they're made up. Do they even look nice?

Take for instance this girl in the picture below, it's not just putting make-up on her face - her nails are gel nails!

Do you know how bad gel is for the nails? Once the gel is removed, the real nails become so weak that they would bend and split very easily. I know because many of my colleagues have gel nails because they think it looks nice (though I beg to differ) and because the gel nails are much stronger than our own nails. Our work is physical and the gel nails don't split as easily.
However once the gel is removed, simple chores like washing clothes will cause the nails to split and peel.

Please don't ever do this to your daughters in future!

Stressed

I collected my bag today. Sad to say, I see no difference?! Paid so much for the cleaning but I don't see it any cleaner or the colour any brighter. WTF.

Also, saw a video today of an 'evacuation' demo done on the A380. Stress gila. Just the crew shouting "Evacuate! Evacuate!" already stressed me out so much. And it was a full-load scenario. Of course the 'passengers' were very co-operative, no drama-mamas. They cleared out 800+ passengers in 78 seconds! HOW AMAZING IS THAT! In real life, of course you'll have people who freak out at the door because trust me, you will too. The slide is quite steep and it's quite a long way down.
Speaking of which, next week I will have to jump the slide again... :(

Wonderwoman, *pow!*

Tomorrow I will attempt to do something which could break my fingers and maybe my back... but I will show you what a wonderwoman I am *flex muscles*...

Can I also share something with you!

Yesterday on my flight, there was this girl Viola who was travelling with her grandparents, mother and sister in business class. She has school today so her mother did not allow the two young girls to sleep onboard lest they couldn't sleep at night. So the girls asked for two sets of writing kit and started drawing. They drew for hours and when they ran out of ideas, they started drawing the crew in Business Class.....
Viola in particular drew every single crew she met, including first class crew who walked past Business Class. She merely took one glance at them and started drawing. Then she'd go around the cabin looking for that crew in particular to hand in her drawing.

The top pic is me, by Viola's sister Alisa. I'm holding a lollipop in one hand and got a tongue stuck out for the lollipop (I'm quoting Alisa).
The bottom two pics are drawn by Viola....
Thank you Alpha for blurring out my name in the pic :)
Thank you Anlynn for blanko-ing the Company's logo too!

Ok it's time to retire to bed. Gotta wake up early tomorrow for training.

My room

Clearing out my room and among the most common things I come across (and throwing out):

- skincare/makeup samples...from where else but Seoul;
- Do Not Disturb stickers (I always have a few in my uniform pocket so I can stick it on my passengers' seats if they decline a meal... and after work I come back and leave them all over the place);
- carbonized copies of meal order pad;
- The Company's post-it pad... I HAVE SO MANY OF THEM!!! Again, I always have a small post-it pad in my pocket, to jot down requests in case I forget... once again, after work I remove them from my pocket and leave them everywhere;
- receipts!!!!;
- pens.

Why am I so messy and disorganized!
Funnily enough I know I am, and getting organized has never been in my NY resolutions list. I must know myself quite well.

New strategy

I could be going back to San Francisco!!!!!! and *drumroll* Seoul!!!!!!!!!
Favourites :)

I waited forever for this flight - it's the bestest flight pattern, IMHO. Well, flight itself is tough (3 day flight sectors, always full, many many special meals, etc.) but the stations are great.

I have a Milan which I have said I do not wish to do and someone's willing to take it from me and is giving me her Seoul-SanFran so GOOD FOR ME!
And for her!
Win-win situation.

As discussed with my friends I have a new strategy for this flight.
I will hang out in Korean restaurants in San Francisco hahaha sorry this is private but yeah that's what Imma try to do! :-D

Westfield vs. Korean restaurant...

FTS

Here I am, very non-homophobic (but not homoloving thank you very much), BUT IF ALL THE GUYS I LIKE KEEP GETTING POACHED BY OTHER MAN, THEN YES I'm gonna be pretty pissed off by other gay men very soon!

First it was Eloy, then it was Stephen Gately. And guess what? When Stephen came out, it was revealed that Eloy was his boyfriend. What are the freakkkkinggggg chances. ^

Ricky Martin recently came out too, but oh who didn't see that coming. Two kids. Surrogate mother. Plus he's hot. It all falls into place.

And now the rumours on the internet are going around that Anderson Cooper is gay too?!

Fine. Take all the good men out there, go ahead *dark face*.

^ And a few more guys who came out of the closet after that, shattering millions of hearts across the land, mine included. I just can't pull names out of my head at this moment it's too early in the morning.

Movers

I think I want to hire movers to help me move my things from this room to the next (about 12 feet away) :(

Who's free tomorrow?

I'm back!

I don't want to talk about football because it was a bad weekend for that sport, so I'll talk about another sport that gave me the results I wanted - boat racing!
CAMBRIDGE beat OXFORD WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO! At this 156th boat race, the win for Cambridge gives them 5 wins more than Oxford.

After so many defeat at the oars of Oxford in recent years, Cambridge University won again at the annual boat race. Bet you didn't know I follow the boat race :P
I do follow the Oxbridge boat race and I've actually seen it on TV twice (when they used to broadcast it on Premiere 12 ho ho ho, long time ago since the channel is now defunct.) but ever since then I only follow it on news.
Tall (guaranteed), intelligent (guaranteed) men with muscles (also guaranteed)... who can resist!

DIDYOUKNOW - not too long ago there were two former Harvard students who wanted to sue the pants of Facebook because they claimed that FB co-founder Mark Zuckerberg stole their idea. There was an out of court settlement of $65 million dollars. Well, these two millionaires were actually rowing for Oxford yesterday. Both are doing MBA at Oxford so they were on the team.

I'm free tomorrow. Orchard Road anybody?

New addiction

Super Junior. Can't get enough of their vids. Oh, I'm such a woman~
But I found it so weird that... that... I'm not discriminatory.. but... there is a fat boy in the boyband hahahahahhaahah.

Anyway, it's funny how I've never heard of them until 3 days ago when I was in class! (The instructor was playing their song Sorry Sorry during one of the breaks) They have to be huge because my colleagues could actually sing to that song.
Alinta, will need you to update me on Korean songs okayz...

p/s: their video Dancing Out is filmed in KL!

Good that it's Friday

I feel so, so lazy today. Maybe it's because today is a public holiday. Maybe it's because I did a hectic flight yesterday and tomorrow I've got a super early flight out to the land of the glorious roasted ducks. Maybe because the weather is good. In effect I just feel like doing nothing but laze.
In the last 3 days I have covered 2 seasons of Friends although I really have other things to do.

Things that I keep putting off:
- putting on the cover for my quilt. My quilt's been naked for a week;
- sending out a Sri Lankan New Year card har har har yes they celebrate it in April;
- clearing out the clutter in my room omg it's so bad now I can't find my things;
- move to the next room;
- laundry;
- storing away my bags. They're all outside their dustbags on my bed;
- groom my eyebrows, I've got a forest on my face!
- study for my impending exams... I hate studying for this! First Aid sux fullstop;
- change away my Milan flight. Yes you heard right, me no wants to do this Milan flight. Because I don't want to come back with a purchase I can't afford right at this moment.

I have to keep reminding myself buying the house is a right decision. Now the figures are coming in. The contractor has ambitious plans for the house. Do the porch, knock this wall down, extend that part, change the roofing etc. OMG. Making an extension for a kitchen is one thing, but putting in a kitchen is a different thing altogether. Then there's the furniture. And the platform for the piano. And the painting.
I still want my bar :(
That's gotta wait though.

My investment portfolio looks pathetic. There is nothing to make money for me except myself. Lucky for me I like my job.

Still wishing on that rich unknown relative in US to die and have my name in his million-dollar will.

Aussies are cool like that

The latest of the Australian airliner's misfortunes....

Imagine seeing a fire and not shout and panic?
We can hear a voice saying coolly, "We're on fire."

Imagine if it were KS Singaporeans onboard.

YouTubers for Haiti

First got to know of this video from CNN's iReport.

It's a collaboration of the biggest YouTubers, singing We Are The World. When I saw the report I was hoping David Choi will be in it and guess what, he is!!

Run your mouse over the video to get the names of the artistes.

Shocking des

Did a flight today to another SEA country. It was rush rush rush as was expected but nothing prepared me for the shock of the profile of passengers today.

If you think you fly a lot, think again.

I have to do this same flight two weeks later, argh.
