Mah legs gon' break

Had a long long day walking today. Went back to the crew joint for superb breakfast, took the MTR to Wong Tai Sin temple and after that to Victoria Peak and Madamme Tussuads.

Bruce Lee and Andy Lau were unfortunately on M.C. though I saw Johnny Depp heeee =D

I really don't think I can stand living in HK as much as I like the city.
Plus, too many PRCs flooding this place, shoving and pushing and cutting queues.

At the moment my favourite cities are Seoul, Paris and San Francisco. Will gladly pack up and head to SF or Seoul to live any day.

Boring days ahead

I really hate to say this: I'm banned from shopping in HK.

When I arrive tomorrow I will check in, sleep and read (I brought a new book with me, smart yea?) and... that's about it. Maybe do a few touristy things which don't include shopping. FML.
Don't know how in my ditziness did I end up like this. HK is meant for shopping! I can't even step into Sasa now. *sniff*

I promise I will love my new boots long long time.

p/s: When I returned to Burberry today the sales lady who served me yesterday said the two Kuwaiti men went back to the shop after we left to ask for our numbers!!! My colleague and I were in the shop for a long time yesterday, 45 minutes easily so good thing we left when we did. When the lady said she didn't know our numbers he asked if she knew which hotel we stayed in. Psycho! Later on the sales lady who was serving them yesterday came downstairs and saw both of us and said, "You can shop in peace - the two men are not here! They're going back today!" Yay?

View from 39th floor

There's a bar on the 39th floor of the Marriott Marquis hotel and here you can see Alcatraz... Can't find the time to visit it this trip.

Next time, hopefully.

With or without wings?

Apple is now the laughing stock in g33kdom... I guess the future owners of Apple's latest toy will not get away easily too!

I called my colleague this morning at 8 a.m. Turned out that she woke up at 3 a.m. and had problems falling back asleep too. So we went out and had a fat American breakfast - Carl's Jr. - and proceeded to Burberry!! Shopping in Burberry in US always makes me happy... Then a stupid thing happened.
I was looking at a bag when the sales lady told me to go all the way - she passed me a pair of matching boots (same leather, same colour) and then as I lost all control, this Kuwaiti appeared. He had two Burberry shopping bags already and was waiting around while another sales assistant got him more children's clothes.
To cut the long story short, he tried to ask my colleague and I out tonight. He was shopping for children's clothes - as if I was gonna say yes?! I made up a story fast enough and then afterwards, my sales assistant told me what nerve he had because she saw a ring on his wedding finger.

Ahhh I really love San Francisco. Best city in the world. Possibly. The people are so so so friendly, I love them!! Got such a positive vibe the moment I stepped out of the hotel this morning and it made me happy and smiley all day long despite the jet-lag.
Can't get enough of this place *heart*

Jet-lagging

I was so tired last night. Flew two continuous days, and last night was overnight... yet I slept for only 4 hours, to wake up 3 hours ago at 4.30 a.m.
DAMN.
So while I lay in bed trying to fall back asleep, I was thinking about the six degrees of separation theory.
I sort of figured out how I am 6 degrees (or less) of separation away from Fergie of BEP and the Pope.
But is it possible that I am 6 degrees of separation away from Stephen Hawking and Kevin Rudd...

The predicament of not having my own container

=(
How did this happen to me! I left Singapore with an almost full cargo bag (2 pairs of boots, 2 coats, thick wool tops, some food and water, undergarments, TOILETRIES they take up a lot of space and weigh a tonne), a full mamasan bag (uniform top-coat a must-have although if I had a choice I wouldn't bring it along at all, laptop bag with laptop and charger, safety shoes) and my cabin bag which is also full with spare uniform (again a must-have), paxing shoes and clothes (i.e. civilian clothes and shoes in the category of formal clothing - also must have - in case something goes wrong with the aircraft and we have to step down and fly as passengers) and a stuffed handbag because it cannot go out of shape (but then again it's stuffed with pajamas which I obviously need) and camera, sunglasses, chargers, and other miscellanous items.

And that filled up almost every space of three luggage. FML.

As I walked to my gate in HK airport this evening or was it yesterday evening.... (I'm confused because I left HK at 11 pm but it's only 7.30 p.m. in SFO now, same day wtf) :
I remembered that Sasa is cheap in Hong Kong. Then I remembered that Chinese New Year is coming and I WILL buy a lot of sweets from Aji Ichiban. Then I remembered that my relatives are coming back and they might like some biscuits and tarts from Hong Kong. Then I remembered CLOTHES SHOPPING IN SAN FRANCISCO and I have every intention to buy a pair of shoes and/or boots here!

HOW NOW!
:'(

I brought an extra mamasan bag to deploy (thanks Julia because she helped me buy this extra bag from Seoul last week) but I daresay there won't be enough space still.
T________T

p/s: hurrah to the man who was found alive two weeks after the earthquake in Haiti! Give him a million bucks because he's the true survivor!!
p/s/s: anybody needs to buy an iTunes store card let me know... I'll be dropping by for that tomorrow and will be happy to get it for you too.

Familiarity

Was in the coach to our hotel in Hong Kong when I saw the exclusive Peninsula Hotel up ahead. I vividly remember how years ago during a visit with my elder sister we walked past the building with all the designer boutiques (Chanel, LV, Prada, Hermes, Fendi, Bvlgari, Cartier, Tiffany & Co. etc.) and thinking to myself, "Gee will I ever be able to afford anything from one of these boutiques."

Fast forward a few years, I'm all grown up and earning my own money and these things are not so out of grasp anymore.

Back then I also wondered if I'll ever get the chance to stay a night at The Peninsula.
Well guess what?

Fast forward a few years, I'm all grown up and earning my own money and I'm putting up at the hotel right next to The Peninsula. Close enough :P

I need a 35"

I haven't even arrived in HK and SF to start my shopping and my luggage is already three-quarters full... Totally absurd.

Lesson: If you're going on a shopping holiday to the anywhere, go during summer. Damn them boots and coats.

Random stuff

because I'm bored of pasting stickers on carbonized forms for taking meal orders in Business Class.

How cool is this:

a white blood cell going after its dinner....

which makes me think, why do we have to 'find ourselves'. People go on journey of months and years to 'discover themselves'. Just make yourself. Sometimes people say it's about timing and opportunity... If opportunity doesn't knock then you'll just have to build a door.
"Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent." -Marilyn vos Savant

ONE DAY I'm gonna sit down and think what I want to be. Shame on myself for not having really done this since I finished high school.

Oh and this might interest some of you, especially a friend of mine who's a dentist...
Monkeys floss, and they also teach their children how to.
I just saw a video proof on YouTube and the next time I look into the mirror when I floss I hope I don't see a monkey. I guess we should all stop being lazy and start flossing (this goes out to me too). If monkeys can take care our their teeth then I don't see why we can't.

I ran for the first time this evening since I finished the marathon. Feels good to be running again although at the back of my head I still worry about the possible damage to my knees.

My last flight to Melbourne was a blast. My poor cousin travelled out of the suburbs to pick me up from the city and we drove another 40 minutes to another suburb which was close to his own suburb to meet my uncle and his family for late lunch near his workplace. By then I had been up for 24 hours already. My cousin made a major detour and sent me back to the hotel, where I managed to take an hour's nap before I caught up with Evelyn (who incidentally is the above-mentioned dentist). She took me to Koko Black where we took in an obscene amount of fats and calories that came in a cup. We also ordered a 'spoil' which we couldn't finish... so we TA PAO-ed. How much more Asian can we get :p
Had dinner with her closest friends Jas and Elice at Hardware Lane. Was telling Evelyn about the fruit beer that I had in Sydney at the Belgian Beer Cafe. Shame that the restaurant we were at didn't have it because Evelyn really wanted to try it... then on our way back to the hotel, we spotted the Belgian Beer Cafe!!!
Had only 7 hours to sleep that night - so thank God for the light load the next day. And thank goodness too I worked in Business Class, which is much easier to handle.

Speaking of Business Class reminds me of a passenger we had in First Class. He is an LV fanatic and I think that is an understatement. He was showing my colleague an album which had his collection of things from LV. With him that day was an LV Pegasus luggage, an LV garment bag, a small-ish messenger bag that has a strap behind to slide onto the Pegasus handle... I forgot to check his shoes and belt though. According to my colleague he even recently bought a trunk/closet from LV that fits 30 pairs of shoes for his wife. Lucky woman!

Ok time to get back to pasting those stickers and then PACK for 8 days!

Body Butter, 1 for 1!

The Body Shop body butter prices have been going up and up and is getting a little bit too expensive to buy.
I used to buy one tub for RM38 in 2003 then the last I saw about 2 years ago it was more than RM60. RIDICULOUS!

However today I bought two tubs for the price of one, i.e. S$29.90.
Let me know if you need to get any.

A different beat

Was watching Boyzone's concert again last night before I went to bed. I was superrrrrr tired (because I was up for like 30 over hours without sleep when in Melbourne) and I think I might have fallen asleep at one of the songs, then woke up again feeling very refreshed 5 minutes later. I love how the guys followed the vocals and arrangement of the songs because they always changed when they sang live for a few songs (like Love Me For A Reason)... Got a bit sick of listening to those already so it was good for a change that in this concert they followed the original very closely.

Checked online for their previous concerts in DVD. Several years ago they were all still sold only in VHS but yay now Amazon UK sells a box set of the same 3 DVDs I'm looking for, for under 10 pounds! MUST BUY.

John has also moved out. On Thursday he moved out and Ferinna moved in. She's the girl who went for both aircrew interviews with me (for this airline and another middle eastern one), and we both got in. We had both wanted to go to the middle east, but I ended up pulling out and I felt I had betrayed her. Later on she pulled out of that one too, a small part because I didn't go and largely because of her boyfriend.

Off to Hong Kong and then San Francisco tomorrow evening. On a typical Seoul-San Francisco flight, stewardesses usually spend more in Seoul because of the obvious - cosmetics and skin care stuff, on top of clothings and groceries. The stewards definitely spend more in San Francisco because of Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle and Hollister. The girls probably buy all that too and at the same time also burn a lot of money at Forever 21 but the damage is more in Seoul and the guys do little damage there.
On a HK-SF flight however, I believe that there won't be much for me to buy in HK so I hope I don't spend away my entire allowance for the flight like I did for Seoul-Frisco.
USD is weak now so hurrah!

Ok I've to go to the airport now (I've been there 5 times in the last 6 days wtf) to buy my TSA band for the luggage. Don't want my luggage locks to be broken by TSA again sheesh.

ee-eh-oh!
ttfn.

BOYZONE *heart* Forever

Please, please... spare us this infliction. Is this Hitler in the making? Enough is enough.
________________________________

I stumbled upon Boyzone's Live Again... No Matter What DVD at HMV today. All the nostalgia that flooded back!

1) Stephen Gately. Don't know what to say... just that he'll always and forever be my fave Boy and R.I.P.
2) Reminds me of the times when my sisters and I would watch BZ Live In Wembley over and over again... I wouldn't be surprised if we saw it a hundred times.
3) Also we lent the VHS to cousin Shu Shin and she also played it over and over at Grandma's place. I think Grandma liked Ronan (and called him "yen tao"). :p
4) I still remember the lyrics oh man.
5) Back in the days when I watched their concert vids, the fans were my age. Now I see those fans and I'm like, "what happened to the teenage girls?! these people look so old..." then I realize that damn I've grown up too.
6) Shane really loves Stephen. Can't imagine his pain at Steo's demise.

Up-rais-ing part deux

Rais Yatim does it again. He doesn't know how to shut up! He thinks he's so hip when he uses terms like SMS and Twitter in his speech... Who uses ICQ nowadays :-o thank goodness he didn't say mIRC.
I guess it's true when twitteratis call him ancient.

- we should start a theme park, featuring dinosaurs of the ancient. we should call it #yorais-sic park.

-
Electricity cannot be accepted wholly as it's founded by a westerner. We're just users*.

*because our Information Minister (Allah God why do we have one who's ancient like this) said "facilities
like internet cannot be accepted totally because it is a form of business introduced by the West and we are just users."

HEY! That reminds me this whole Allah-only-for-Muslims uproar in the last few weeks.... ARE THEY GONNA BURN MY HOUSE TOO BECAUSE I ALWAYS USE THE WORD ALLAH? You know, like "Allah, why did u do that?!" or "Ya'Allah!! He is so stupid!!!! God save him!"

The voice lives on

This is Boyzone's latest single, featuring the vocals of Stephen Gately *sobsobsob*...

Kindle 2

In the last year, it became more and more common to see a Caucasian businessman onboard reading from a thin device no larger than a paperback opened up. That was how I was first introduced to Amazon's Kindle.
Initially I thought it was not as convenient as reading from a book, because you can't physically flip the pages and what if you drop it?! I throw my paperbacks in my handbags (none come out pretty by the time I finish the last page) and what if I sit on it by accident?

One day I got really curious and just asked my priority passenger, who refused to eat anything on that short flight and never took his eyes off his Kindle. Didn't his eyes hurt?
By then I already knew there was a Kindle 1 and the updated Kindle 2. In my curiosity I had checked the device on Amazon and found many good reviews, though I didn't read enough to decide if I really want one. So I just stopped to ask him if that was a 1 or 2 that he was holding to start the conversation. He said it was a Kindle 2 and he loves it. I asked wouldn't it be easier reading from a book and he said it only takes an hour and you'll never return to paper again. Eh? Well I know there's a limit to the number of books you can store on the Kindle and judging by the number of books that I read in a year, I'll never run out of space on my Kindle. But I just had to check if it was possible to transfer the ebooks purchased to a storage device or if he'll have to get another Kindle then... he didn't know the answer because he hadn't reached the limit either. You know what my weakness is - when someone tells me he/she will never go back to the conventional thing again... That was how I caved in and got my Mac when my passengers told me the same thing.

I know one of the downside of the Kindle is that the wireless coverage (you can only download books over wifi) does not cover Singapore and Malaysia yet but I suppose I can always buy and download my books when I fly to Australia, UK, US, and other parts of the world? That's kinda sorta like why I'm flying right - making full use of my travels... Considering how often I pop by Australia I should have no problems at all. I've checked - perfect coverage in Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. =)
By the time I stop flying Amazon probably would have expanded its coverage to this part of the world.

EDIT: Just 2 weeks ago there was no coverage in Singapore and Malaysia - now there is!! Batu Pahat also has coverage hehe. Not bad at all.

I'm seriously curious about the device. I wonder where I can get to see and feel one in the States...

Read all about it here.

Up-rais-ing

There's an uprising!
The old fart who asked all Malaysians to stay away from Twitter and Facebook is a trending topic on Twitter (#yorais). God, some are really funny.

- rais is so ancient, when god said let there be light, he was there to flip the switch
-
Rais Yatim is so ancient that he keeps Hanku Jaya plastic bags
-
Rais' fav song is Endless Love cos Lionel Richie sang: and #yorais #yorais #yorais, they tell me how much you care...
-
Rais is so ancient, when Julius Caesar got assassinated he said, "It wasn't me."
-
Rais is so ancient that he thinks @staronline is a new solar system
-
He's so ancient, when he was in school there was no history class
- #yorais
is so old he thinks Broadband is a bunch of fat musicians.

Malaysians do have a sense of humour and if I may add this - very protective of Twitter!
Hundreds of tweets on new Rais Yatim jokes are coming in every minute on Twitter. Wonder if it will get to number 1 on trending topics...

It's MALAYSIA not 1MALAYSIA

Is everyone else just as annoyed at everything being labeled '1Malaysia'?
Our F1 Race team, clinics, restaurants, shyte policies, etc. are all named 1Malaysia or come under the stupid 1Malaysia umbrella. WHATTHEFCK is 1Malaysia?

As far as I'm concerned, Malaysia was formed in 1963 and that as I and the rest of the world recognize it, to be a country. 13 states, 3 territories, 3 major race groups and several minority ethnic groups.

For twenty years Dr. M pushed Malaysia towards Vision 2020 (albeit running a very corrupted government). Yet nothing can be worse than this farcical actor who's playing the role of PM. He has not yet done anything since he came to power other than BUGGING THE FREAKING HELL OUTTA ME WITH HIS 1MALAYSIA MANTRA (and spiralling towards Vision 1969). For every shyte that he says, he uses the 1Malaysia mantra to occupy some space in the papers. He says 1Malaysia is a Malaysia that is for all people regardless of race and religion. 8-) dude, isn't that what Malaysia is about? Is he saying (or admitting) that Malaysia has been all this while not quite for every one?

Everyday I see 1Malaysia in the newspapers (hate hate hate the controlled media). When I call Maxis' helpline, they play the 1Malaysia song. What happened to 'When The Saints Go Marching In' and 'Skaters Waltz'? Don't they use those songs anymore to keep the caller on the line entertained? I scoff everytime I see the word 1Malaysia making the headlines. It's nothing but a pathetic attempt at making us believe he is doing any bit work for the people other than the Malays.
You know what truly pissed me off?
The latest radio ad by Ministry of Tourism.

Malaysia, Truly Asia. I bet all of you are familiar with this tagline. Internationally, the tourism ministry uses this tagline to promote Malaysia and it has been a successful campaign. Domestically, we're more familiar with Cuti-cuti Malaysia, which basically means holidaying in Malaysia. It's to encourage domestic holidays among the locals. The latest radio ad *fume fume fume* goes, "Cuti-cuti 1Malaysia". ARGH!!!!

MIGHT AS WELL JUST CHANGE THE DAMN NAME OF THE COUNTRY LAH!

Imma register myself as a voter the next time I go home.

Self-control is the word

I had an entire day to shop in Brisbane but I did not! I packed my most painful pair of heels and that basically forced me to choose my shops very carefully.
Brisbane is the most convenient place for me to shop in Australia because the hotel is situated in the middle of the shopping arcade/street.
And in my best efforts, I managed to control my shopping and ended up with only a pair of shoes and top - both going at 50%. woohoo!!
So much sales in the shops and I didn't even go in... I declare operation self-control a success!

Extremely excited about my next flight - MELBOURNE!!! So much to do and I already know I'll operate back on minimum rest. (I think my heart rate just hit 150 at the thought of it)
I'll kill myself if I forget my camera.

Also, John's back to pack his stuff. He came back yesterday and should be leaving tomorrow.
Maybe we'll go out for dinner later - hopefully at Ritz-Carlton. He came back on such short notice we didn't even get to make reservations at anywhere nice. Last I heard, Julia was trying to arrange a champagne lunch buffet there.

Stewardess: ??!!

Post 445

Sorry the last post was the 444th and I don't like going away for several days and leaving my number of posts at 444. Excuse me while I'm Chinese.

At the same time, do take time to admire Jessica Stam's new hat. With a supermodel donning a hat like this, very soon we'll all be wearing one just like this too!

Writing out of anger

I have finally done it. For so long I wanted to reply to those emails in a nice way. It's just that I'm beyond lazy and cannot be bothered sitting down and thinking how I should put it in a nice way.
But the horrible mails kept coming in and with each mail the more childish the writer became.

I could no longer take it...
So half an hour ago, when I realized that I'm meeting my friends an hour later than I thought, I decided to sit down and write. As I read the writer's last email, there was an inferno in me which I could not control. The more I wrote the more angry I felt.
If the writer was not pleasant with me then I wasn't going to stand on ceremony too.
I didn't even read what I typed before I clicked on the Send button. I DON'T CARE. IF all he wanted was a reply he got one.

A load off my ass now.

Definitely teen idol material

Anyone remembers this cute guy?

Has a very famous brother and an even more famous father.

This is Julio Iglesias Jr. He was big for a little while. Of course only among the teenage girls about 8 years back?

His song Welcome To My World was playing on my iTunes and I thought he sounded very.... breathy?
I've never paid notice to his song before (I believe that's the only song of his that I have) until 10 minutes ago. When his song came up I was wondering who on earth is this sounding so breathy... is he trying to sound sexy? EWWWWWW. At first I thought he was only going to be like this for the first two verses and then might revert back to 'normal' at the chorus like George Michael in Star People. George Michael can actually sing, but this guy........... I really doubt. If he always sounds like this then his album must suck.
I'm even contemplating deleting that song from my iTunes for good. How can one sound like that throughout an entire song?!
Can't believe Mr. J.I. Jr. even made it big for that little while.

Conclusion: It always pays to look good.

EDIT: OMG! It just occurred to me that he sounds like the male version of Jessica Simpson! Urgh, can't stand them both.

PHARK I WANNA GET AWAY

Get away from all the crap, all this crap!

*grabs a handful of Floo Powder*
ohmmm-mani-mani-mani get me to paradise

I luv most of u.

Your attention is needed

OK Girls and Boys,

I'm making this clear once and for all.

One day, we're going to be in different places and we're not going to be able to hang out/communicate as we do.
During those days, you will find that you have sent me a few emails which I will end up not replying.
That is when you will have to REMEMBER THIS POST: I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN YOU. I appreciate your email, I appreciate your Christmas/NY/CNY/Birthday cards very very much. But I S-U-C-K at keeping in touch.
REMEMBER I have all the words and sentences in my head to say to you when I read your mails, but I just can't find the time/make the time to reply to you because sitting down and writing emails just isn't what I do.

So don't write even more mails and then bombarding me with accusations because then I'll have even more things in my head to say to you - and yet I won't.

I may suck at writing to you, but I will not forget you.

You could write to me and update about your life. I'll be extremely keen to know what's been happening. It'll even warm my heart to know that you cared to send me something (via snail/e-mail)... but it's really hard for me to write back. I just don't like doing it. It's like making me sew - I can probably do it, very reluctantly, and I'll end up doing a terrible job.

I'm really busy. I know we're all busy and you're probably more busy than me. But you don't have clothes that pile up from 3 continuous flights, you don't shift timezones one-tenth as often as I do and you don't travel between shit-city and home once every few days. It's very draining on me, and I'm superduperwhooper tired from all these. Give me a break.
I do take time to check my mails, I'll read your mails but I'm really too tired to reply.

REMEMBER THIS POST.

That's all thanks.

Tong tong tong qiang!!

Roster's out!!!
I technically have Chinese New Year off and that's the best possible news I was hoping for!! I was keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get a long flight just before CNY so that the offdays coincide with CNY Eve and CNY, but chances were low really. It could have been short flights all month long (considering I've been getting the unusual two long flights monthly for several months now) thus giving me no chance to go back at all, or even a turnaround on that day etc. It could have been anything and this was the best possible roster! Love you too, God.
Really so thankful for this break...

There's a tiny problem though, just before that long flight (Amsterdam), I have 2 days of standby back-to-back. There's a higher chance of getting called up for long flights for such standbys. If that happens, my Amsterdam will be disrupted and then I might not get to go back for CNY. I MUST REMOVE THE STANDBY NO MATTER WHAT. I'll change for crap flights, whatever it takes, they have to go.

My offdays are only till 14th. On the 15th night I have to report (at 2230 hours) for a flight to Sydney. I hope to be able to meet my aunt and uncle and Alinta to continue with CNY celebrations hehe. Really couldn't have asked for a better roster :)

A different kinda bubbly

*nyomnyomnyom* I'm eating one of the best foods in the world - Bengawan Solo kek lapis. Ooooo, heavenly.
Effing tired.
Glad to be home.
Waiting for the oxygen mask to finish bubbling up before I go to bed. Today I finally opened up my bareminerals starter kit. On its own one tub of foundation is $45 and one brush is $50.
But the starter kit has:
2 tubs of foundation (two different shades)
3 brushes (one for full coverage, one for light-medium coverage, the other for concealing)
1 tub of mineral veil (finishing powder and for touch-ups)
1 mini tub of concealer (there's a name for it but I forget)
1 beginners guide CD
1 sample of BM's primer
for a super-duper worth-it price of $115.

I don't know how they do their math but I think all of them failed from Grade 2 onwards.

Of course liquid foundation gives better coverage and makes everything prettier but minerals are suppose to be better for the skin and erm yeah I bought this because *shifty eyes* you can sleep with the makeup.

Lastly, hating the heat in BP!

Rat hole

Upon arrival in Milan this morning after doing a shuttle to Barcelona, I received an SMS from Alpha telling me that a bank manager was murdered in Lagoon Perdana.
I had stayed there for a short few months but those months were shit scary. I feared for my safety everytime I stepped out of my unit and I needed escorts to send me back.

According to The Star, the bank manager was stabbed from behind while waiting for the lift with his wife. The assailant then slashed his face with a sickle. The victim died shortly after. The assailant managed to get away.

It is learnt that closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) were neither installed at the parking lot nor in the vicinity of the lift.

On Saturday, Selangor CID deputy chief ACP Omar Mammah said initial investigations revealed that the assailant targeted only Teoh and not his wife.

"We believe the couple were not acquainted with the assailant but had noticed him while walking from their car to the lift," he said, adding that the motive of the murder had not been ascertained.

He said checks revealed the absence of CCTVs near the lift and parking lot, adding that it was puzzling how the killer managed to pass through the apartment's security detail.

That place should be torn down. The apartments are done so shoddily the blocks are just waiting to collapse. The security guards there are useless and they just let anybody and everybody in. Plus that place is infested with foreign workers (and students also). A rape case is waiting to happen. SORRY FOR STEREOTYPING but I really feared for my own safety when I stayed there. The lifts are filthy and break down so often. The insides are heavily vandalized with vulgarities. Water always leaks through the cracks in the carpark after a rain.
That place is just crap. The rat hole of Sunway. As if there'll be CCTVs. Can't wait for the municipal council to raze down the place...

Nyahaha!

See my wet paper bag (bottom pic)... die die rushed out to buy it before I leave tomorrow. Freaking wet in Milan! Remember this? I got it!!!! <3

Groovy, baby...

High

Edit: OMG! I look like a clown. I would never step out in this in BP! :( byeee

When the captain made the landing announcement this morning, he mentioned that the temperature on ground was -5°C. My Italian passenger looked at me with eyes wide open and asking me if it was -5°C that he heard.

Err yeah, sir.
:-S

I'm even more troubled than him to hear the temperature ok.
This is the second flight in a row I forgot to pack my boots. You think I'd have remembered after the last flight but NO, I left my boots and Ferinna's boots in Singapore. I brought a pair of track shoes this trip because I have plans to hit the gym (to start my training for the next marathon). It would be useful if it wasn't a trench coat and skinny jeans that I packed!! Why didn't I pick a more simple short puffer jacket and why didn't I choose the boot-cut jeans?!
First it was carrying an ugly mamasan in fashionable Japan and now it's trench coat-skinny jeans - SPORTS SHOES in fashion capital Milan. Can God be more cruel...

Anyway I'm running on high. I slept for just an hour last night during the crew rest period. So that's like an hour's sleep in 24 hours. And after touch-down I had wanted to sleep for 4 hours before going out but I woke up much earlier (giving me time to blog). I don't know why I'm not tired. Is it because I'm so excited about getting my luggage, finally? It's been postponed twice because I couldn't justify the purchase but yeah, I'm finally doing it (hey! Flying's my job, I ought to get a good luggage yeah!). And I hear the word SALES. The handover set of crew (we hand the aircraft over to them - they take the transit pax on to Barcelona) told us there's sales everywhere.

In fact the stewardess who told me about it told me she bought Ferragamo and Prada shoes, Prada bagsssss, Balenciaga, etc. She's gonna be in so much trouble if the customs stop her.
The hotel staff told us today is the LAST day of sales.
Still - one must exercise self-control. I'll show you how it's done ;-)

Pier 39's not the same

Last June, when I was in San Francisco, visiting Pier 39 was a top priority. I just had to see the sea lions.

The sea lions were noisy and they smelled awful. Even so they were cute and loveable.

Last week though it was reported that the sea lions of Pier 39 have mysteriously disappeared. Experts couldn't explain what might have caused the sea lions to abandon Pier 39 and nobody know where they went.
(Today it was reported that the sea lions have appeared in Oregon.)

End of this month I'll be going to San Francisco again. Pier 39 will be very quiet this time I'm sure. I'm just glad that I had visited the pier before the seals ditched the place they called home for 20 years.

Barking up the wrong tree

The Consumer Association of Penang has for days been telling the Malaysian government to stop the subsidy of sugar because Malaysians are consuming too much sugar, resulting in high incidences of diabetes.

Is the CAP president for real?

Even if the government stops subsidizing Malaysians will still consume that much sugar. Instead, prices of food and drinks will increase, and the burden comes back to the consumers! As it is my cup of iced Milo is already at an unacceptable price of RM1.50 per cup so if the government stops the sugar subsidy then it'll probably end up costing more. And trust me, Malaysians aren't going to give up their favourite cup of teh tarik and onde-onde any time soon. Instead, it just burdens the people even more. The ordinary folks are already finding it so hard to cope with everyday things given the inflation AND CREDIT CARD TAX thanks but I think the government should START HELPING THE PEOPLE.

Argh, Milan is freezing hate it.

I am sure you all have seen this viral video of two Chinese students lip-synching. After so many years this video is still funny. Things I noticed:
1. the guy on the left has an injured arm and can't play sports - probably was bored to death staying indoors, hence he made the vid
2. the guy sitting behind in the white jersey could still continue working on his desktop even though there were two monkeys behind him
3. it should be pretty tiring recording this
4. they lip-synch better than Britney

Never could be an Amish

I actually thought it might be fun and challenging to live like an Amish for a day. I'll have to walk and not rely on motorvehicles, I'll have to walk to your house if I had to talk to you (because there are no horse-drawn carriages around), I'll have no use of the computer and handphone, I'll also have to shower and read by candlelight aftrer the sun goes down, and I'll practically be walking around in a black robe with pins (because zippers and buttons are considered too advanced wtf) and I think I cannot use the toilet (might have to dig a hole somewhere!).
Of course, I say it's only for a day because I believe I can easily cheat by not doing much on that day - I'll make sure my groceries are stocked etc. But then again, I suppose now using the fridge is also forbidden which means I can't consume things from the fridge :-S

Anyway I'm throwing the idea out the window already because I found out that Amish people do not allow themselves to be insured - meaning I'll have to cancel my insurance just for a day to live like them.

What a load of b.s.

To the Amishes: You're born in the 20th and 21st century. DEAL WITH IT!

Super klutz

I almost had to be stuck indoors in Osaka =S

I was looking forward to my first ever trip to Japan that I overlooked important things to pack - like a handbag and SHOES.
I usually have my Longchamp bag in my luggage but I took it out just before this flight because I brought it back home. Then I forgot to put it back...
And I totally forgot shoes. Obviously I can't wear my uniform sandals out because it's my toes will fall off in the cold and also, it's not allowed under company policy.

I realized it only when I was in Control Centre, 10 minutes before I had to report for my flight. No one was at home and I definitely wouldn't make it back on time if I went back to get my shoes. So I had to call Ferinna, who thankfully, was in Singapore. I was so afraid she had gone home after her Copenhagen flight but it turns out that she was on MC, so she was grounded.
She rushed to meet me after my reporting as I made my way to the gate to pass me her pair of boots and she even included a tetra-pack chocolate milk drink for me to drink when I'm in Japan. So sweet =)

Then halfway through my flight, it struck me that I had forgotten to pack a handbag.

So I went shopping in Osaka with my mamasan bag (it's part of my luggage and is my permanent toiletries bag) - easily the ugliest bag in the whole of Osaka that day. Even the obasans had much nicer bags that mine. I looked like I was a refugee from China :( At least those people's bags had blue-white-red stripes. Mine was just black.

Anyway shopping in Japan is uhm ... not my thang.
I'd still choose Seoul any day over Osaka/Japan (same thing).
It's too expensive!
A few examples:
- the foundation I use from Shiseido (Japanese brand and product is made in Japan) costs RM130 in Malaysia but is RM160 after conversion in Japan. Ditto to all cosmetic products regardless of whether they're Japanese or Western brands. Also, Korean brand BB cream is twice more expensive!
- an LV bag that costs RM6300 (RRP in Malaysia) and RM5000 (if bought in France) costs RM6990 in Japan after conversion. OH WAIT I forgot to mention that's the price in the second-hand bag shop in the shopping district of Namba!
- an LV bag that costs RM2200 brand new in Malaysia costs RM2300 second-hand in Japan. Sorry I keep using LV as examples because this shop was selling mainly LV bags. There are many such second-hand luxury handbag shops in Namba selling mostly LV, Hermes, Chanel and Bottega Veneta. Absolutely cut-throat.
- Shoppers all had huge shopping bags because yesterday was the last day of the NY holiday sale. Yet they were buying things like RM80 earmuffs which I can get in Myeungdong (Seoul) for RM40, RM60 phone-charms which were undeniably nice but overpriced!, and RM40 earrings (which you can get for RM10 in Sungei Wang Plaza or S$1 per pair in Myeungdong).
I'm apologize for converting to RM because it was easier that way - 100 yen is RM4.

There's still the upside of shopping in Japan though. You see weird things that you don't see elsewhere. Like a spring thing that you roll on the face to remove facial hair, socks that help you lose weight (??!?!! but I bought it anyway *shy*), DIY hair dye in every shade of brown and then every colour in the 48 colour pencil case, Western cosmetic brands like Maxfactor that have a special range just for the Japanese market, etc.
I know there are a gazillion more things if I had gone to the department store especially at the home section... but I only had 4 hours to be out and about.
My pilot told me he bought a lot of things from the supermarket and it was a dream just to be shopping there. Maybe he's right but again I reiterate it's too expensive! Lotte Mart (in Korea) is a dream too, for me at least.

Well I'm going to crash now. I could barely sleep last night because my room was too cold :(

Cure for your hangover

If your Christmas-NY parties are still going on (tsk tsk tsk), you might need this remedy for your hangover which apparently works all the time.
(Bookmark this page now!)

The shake includes vitamin C-powered orange juice, raspberries and pineapple; cardamom and cinnamon, which help to cleanse the kidneys; stomach-soothing ginger; and banana, which acts as a natural antacid.

Serves 1

- 50ml orange juice

- 4 large chunks of pineapple

- 8 raspberries

- 1 ripe banana

- 1 thin slice of fresh ginger, peeled

- 250ml soy milk

- Pinch of cardamom

- Pinch of salt

- Pinch of cinnamon

Blend all the ingredients in a food processor. Pour into a glass and drink.

Coolest kid's quilt

Still on the topic of Mario, this must be the dream quilt cover of every Nintendo-playing kid!

Mario and his wardrobe

Was reminiscing with Sam how he and Jon, Anshii and Auntie Yan used to play video games so much in Grandad's room. It was the first thing they'd do right after breakfast. Of course he and Anshii totally owned Jon and Auntie Yan. Sam and Anshii were always Mario whereas Jon and Auntie Yan were always Luigi...
Mario's come a long way. While Contra, Bomberman and Donkey Kong have died Mario continues to live on and every GenX/Y/Z kid would have an encounter of some sort with this Italian character.
I remember how once my Italian passenger and I were in the galley talking about Super Mario -__- (it came up because his name was Luigi hahahaha)
I thought only girls had a hard time choosing what to wear...

All men love a girl who can blow

heehee.

I've been looking around Singapore for Mindi Abair's album It Just Happens That Way but no luck until now. The shops have her latest two albums but not this one, which has this song that I really like.
Will have to try Australia next. 'Cept that I don't think I've come across CD shops in Brisbane (though I might have seen a Borders).....

Mindi Abair's Save The Last Dance, here.

ps: I tried to embed the video here but I suck at reading Chinese characters and couldn't do it so I'm sorry that you'll have to click on the link to view the vid.

365 days gone by

Happy January 1st 2010!

2009's gone. And because it's gone I can now say things about it. Initially I didn't want to say good/bad things about it because there were still days left to it that could change the entire way the year went.

2009 was mediocre.

I remember my first flight of 2009. I had just come back from leave and my first flight was on 30th December 2008 to Moscow-Houston. It was a nightmarish 10-day flight. The leading steward tried to be funny with me and when he couldn't get what he wanted he turned in a lousy check report of me on the last day of the flight. He was not the only one. One other crew, an Australian, almost made it awkward for me too.

I'd say I spent less time sleeping than the second half of 2008. In the past I would crash the moment I came back from a flight, regardless of the time of the day. I'd sleep from 8 a.m. if I came back from a 7 a.m. flight and wake up only at 5 p.m. Then sleep well again that night. I was perpetually exhausted. This year, even if I came back from a morning flight, I'd be able to hold out till the night before I went to sleep. Because this year my friends came to Singapore. Chin Shi came in the beginning of the year, and Hsin Ching in he second half. So I made time to see them after flights whenever I could. I also made it to Orchard Road after a tiresome flight more than once.

In 2009 I was left with the biggest gash emotionally. I had bruises and wounds to deal with in the last few years but none quite so deep. It takes time to get over things, so I spent much of 2009 trying to get over it...

In 2009 I had the best family reunion ever. Not a single Chinese New Year could have compared to that 48 hours in September. Alinta was back in Malaysia for 2 months and stayed in BP for most of that two months. Sam still can't figure out what she did in that two months but I'd say a lot of that two months were spent bonding with people rather than doing things. Sam came back once in the first half of the year but I missed him. Then he came back again in September for the reunion for two days. Last week, he was back here again en route to Koh Samui. Not bad, 3 times in a year! Auntie Lin was back for a month too in September. Uncle Hock and Aunty Flo were back for close to three weeks? It was great having these relatives around. If only all of my cousins made it to the reunion.

In 2009 I had my worst day at work in Business Class. But I also had my best days there too.

I received shocking news in 2009. Easily the most shocking I've heard in my entire life. It left me shouting out loud in Zurich airport. Until now I can't get over the news. It's a bit crazy. By the middle of 2010 if it's still not settled then I'm gonna be one brave girl and go all out and deal with it.

I've checked most of my wants this year off my shopping list. Just one last one to go and I'm good. I had a massive breakout this year too and I'm still dealing with it - with mild antibiotics.

2009 was also the year that I got the slightest bit athletic. After seeing my friends run the KL marathon I too wanted to participate in one. Not just walk to the finish line, but to beat the times of my friends from the KL marathon.
I was also suppose to hang up my running shoes already but my cousin is apparently going to fly back from Melbourne to whoop my ass at SG marathon 2010. *takes out running shoes and Nike+ sportsband again*

This year my friends from KL finally visited Batu Pahat. There was Wei Hong and Alpha, Yoges, Aroma and Valerie. I brought Wei Hong to the dirtiest place he's ever been to to eat. Poor dude, but he enjoyed the food after overcoming hygiene issues. Alpha and my mum and sis have become too close since their visit in November and it's extremely disturbing that they (they, 3 of them they) are in touch regularly via SMS and MSN.

This year I met up with Shirline and Fong Yeen too. I also had the opportunity to meet Canada's biggest guy Matt Yu. It was the happiest I was for a while after spending too many depressing months stuck in Singapore (when I've to be back in base). I had the most birthday celebrations this year also. And did I mention that there were massive fireworks and firing canons at Marina Bay at my birthday celebration? :)

This year also I dealt with too many lies and deceit that could last me a lifetime. No more, thanks.

In 2009 I visited London, like finally. Many other to-dos in various cities were also checked off the list. The next big one - Japan - will finally happen tomorrow night.

I was also given the opportunity to meet up with relatives and friends thanks to my work. I met up with Timothy over and over again in Perth, with Kenneth and Rayner in Melbourne, with cousins Alinta, Mayne and Ben in Sydney, with Aunty Lin also in Sydney, with cousins Shu Shin and Sean in London, with Francis in Mumbai, with Sam in Melbourne, ALMOST met Kelvin in Houston, and Jennifer in Seoul!

And yesterday (Dec. 31st), my housemate quit the job to embark on a whole new journey of being his own boss... He'll be moving out soon so it's a pity that I won't have him as housemate anymore. Fortunately though Ferinna will be moving in :)

It seemed like there were more good things that happened than bad but honestly my whole outlook of things was as how you would describe the economy of 2009. I've spoken to too many good people in the last 12 months that I know life should be looking good at 24... so I'll try to make 2010 what 2009 wasn't.

No new resolutions to make. Just the same old one - be a nicer person.
