I am stuck in Bombay.
My original flight departure was 3rd Sept at midnight.
Unfortunately a middle eastern airline skidded along the taxiway in the wee hours of 2nd morning. The weather in Bombay has been awful lately, with the floods just receding but the rain clouds is still over the city.
The airport authorities admitted that they did not have the equipment to remove the aircraft that was stuck in mud. Some 12 hours later the plane had not moved an inch, equipments had not arrived. In the evening all of us (who were oblivious to what had happened in the airport) received calls from the hotel to tell us that our flight for the night was cancelled.
We ordered dinner from outside with the help of concierge (yummy Indian cuisine), and started planning for a night out.
4 of us ended up in a China House, a club in Grand Hyatt down town.
We had so much fun that we were hoping to stay another day.
One of the girls actually will have to miss her holiday flight to San Francisco but she thinks missing it for another night of party in Bombay is worth it!! Imagine that.
This afternoon we were so certain that we will be leaving tonight after so much uncertainties. It was not until the late afternoon that we got information that the aircraft that we are suppose to take back did not leave Singapore.
I have no idea what is the status of the aircraft that skidded. The airport is still functioning and many flights are actually still coming in and out of the city. Unfortunately the only functioning runway does not support wide-bodied aircrafts and guess what, The Company must probably be one of the very few if not the only airline that does not have a single narrow-bodied aircrafts!
Until we can get runway 27 to function again, I will be here indefinitely... Painting the town red in the same dress night after night!!!!
